5.0 out of 5 stars High Speed USB is here
I'll make a simple case. You have a USB 2.0 CD Writer. You can burn a CD-R in ~5 Minutes.
With a USB 1.1 CD Writer, you are looking at ~20 Minutes.
Want to transfer 800mb of data using a USB Storage Device? ~1 Minute or ~13 with 1.1

I Purchased this to upgrade an aging laptop running Win 2000.
I wanted to run a Labgear WG111 wireless network, and access my Jumpdrive at a reasonable speed.
Installation did not happen the way the handbook said it would, but it did install - but not as and Adaptec device.
Niether the WG111 nor the Jumpdrive worked correctly - so off to Adaptec tech...

This product is simple, well supported with PDF manuals and USB management Software to aid any (unlikly) trouble shooting, and best of all, it's Adaptec. If you ever bought an Internal PCI card for SCSI or EIDE in the past, you know the best brand is Adapatec.
Most laptops do NOT support powering devices direct from USB for obvious reasons, but for <5 extra you can buy an AC/DC adaptor in your local electrical store and power the card and therefore the devices if required.
If you have USB 2.0 Products, but only USB 1.1 on your laptop, you need this... Not for your mouse, but Storage devices, high speed scanners and the like.

I Purchased this to upgrade an aging laptop running Win 2000.
I wanted to run a Labgear WG111 wireless network, and access my Jumpdrive at a reasonable speed.
Installation did not happen the way the handbook said it would, but it did install - but not as and Adaptec device.
Niether the WG111 nor the Jumpdrive worked correctly - so off to Adaptec tech support. (They insisted in giving me instructions for XP) After several cycles of questions it transpires that the CardBus(PMCIA) could not support the power demands of niether device ( User hand book said occasionally some devices may need external power - 100% of my devices needed it !). Adaptec said buy an 110v AC device from them !, I found a power cable that tapped into the Laptop standard USB port power.
I eventually found out how to get the Adaptec Drivers loaded, and
now both devices worked, but the supplied utility could not ' see ' the WG111 - Tech support said ' nothing we can do about that '.
So It works fine, Tech support turn round is fast, but lacking in knowledge and does not leave that warm glow a customer needs.
If you know your way round the operating system you'r ok.
