4.0 out of 5 stars Daddy's Bad Girl
An underated drama set in the 50's: partly dealing with an army officer and scientist's misgivings about the cavalier way nuclear testing was carried out and partly about a tempestuous relationship between the officer and his 'free-spirited' wife. The themes get tangled up, in a slightly unconvincing way. The 'plot' wasn't that well carried out and the darker...

Usually like Tommy Lee Jones in almost anything, but this was quite a tedious story. Jessica Lange's character was intensely annoying, and it was hard to believe any man would put up with her repetitive infidelity.

4.0 out of 5 stars Daddy's Bad Girl, 28 Dec 2012
This review is from: Blue Sky [DVD] [1995] (DVD)
An underated drama set in the 50's: partly dealing with an army officer and scientist's misgivings about the cavalier way nuclear testing was carried out and partly about a tempestuous relationship between the officer and his 'free-spirited' wife. The themes get tangled up, in a slightly unconvincing way. The 'plot' wasn't that well carried out and the darker possibilities are eventually jettisoned, which was, perhaps, a pity. But.. the reason why the film is worth seeing is the charaterisation of the officer and his wife and the good acting by Tommy Lee Jones and Jessica Lange (two favourites, I would have to confess). Jessica Lange deserved her Oscar as the would-be Monroe and personally I think Tommy Lee Jones matches her with a very different character and performance. Great chemistry.

I enjoyed the film - think 'Mad Men' in a military setting or a Douglas Sirk film (although Tony Richardson isn't quite up to that level.) Well worth watching.

this was a very good film with strong cast and script, credible story and fine performances from Jones and Lange.

Bitter farewell of a great director, Blue Sky has a quite naf plot but, evidently, served by wonderfull actors.
If we can forget the story (corrupted soldiers, dangerous practices for environement & people...) and concentrate
on the fabulous protagonist couple, we'll have splendid moments.
