new vinyl review-it sucks!
on 5 March 2011
Firstly, this is a classic album. There is no doubt about that. So I was excited to see this vinyl version which was released along with the dsd remasterd cd version. I have a very good vinyl set up, so was thoroughly looking forward to being blown away by the audio quality.
Oh dear! The vinyl was thin sounding, lacking the bass punch of the previous cd version (London version from 1986)that I owned. I was shocked by the lack of detail and clarity. Little attention has been paid to this vinyl transfer. It was further ruined by some scratching sounds on some of the tracks. Not sure if this is an individual fault?
I the replayed my 24 year old cd and was struck by the difference. The cd sounds sharp, well EQ'd and not loud like modern ones. I shall stick with my old london cd and not invest further.
