5.0 out of 5 stars Difficult Third Album? No way baby, this is fantastic!, 18 Dec 2002

Boston-based Susan Tedeschi is a blues artist with a difference : she's a white woman! Compared most frequently to Bonnie Raitt, Tedeschi has a similar voice, but it has more power when she lets go, and yet she can also tear your heart out with the slower, more emotional material. This is her third album, with her career and reputation steadily growing, and having married and had her first baby since her last outing - Just Won't Burn some four years ago now - she seems contented and at one with the world, her life and her music. So, it's happy blues if that's not a contradiction in terms. Maybe she's invented a new genre? The material here is mature, well-rounded blues-rock with songs about love (as opposed to "love songs") mixed in with more traditional numbers, including a stunning cover of Bob Dylan's Don't Think Twice, It's All Right. In the grand scheme of things, she deserves to be a star, but she probably never will be. Instead I like to think of her as my little secret ... and I must confess to a personal connection to this fine lady : having stumbled across her on a drunken night in Memphis, I was hooked instantly and mesmerized by her stage presence, her playing, oh ... and that voice. Like an angel one minute, and a devil in a silk dress the next, she truly seduces you with ... well, everything really.
