3.0 out of 5 stars Bootleg indeed!
Smooth it might be but from the super funky kind of modern jazz!
This issue starts as an official live recording with perfect performance and sound and each number deserves 4 to 5 stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars Amazing breadth of songs and skills, 25 Jan 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: The Ozell Tapes: the Official Bootleg (Audio CD)
Throughout, this album shows the breadth of Marcus Miller skills and his pleasure to play bass. Even thought I felt sometimes that the sound could have been a little better, overall,it's still a pretty good one for a live Album!
this album stays at the top of my CD pile as well as other ones from Marcus Miller.

Smooth it might be but from the super funky kind of modern jazz!
This issue starts as an official live recording with perfect performance and sound and each number deserves 4 to 5 stars.
That is up to the first number on the second disc at least. After that comes the bootleg part of the title as something goes wrong in the mix, as if it came from an other recording session. Of course the performance still deserves some solid 4.5 stars, thanks in peculiar to some welcome vocals by Lalah Hathaway. But, somehow, it gets quite frustrating to hear the Great Marcus Miller and such an amazing band marred by such annoyingly muddy low frequencies!
