4.0 out of 5 stars Great song, excellent B sides.
Surely everyone must have heard this debut single from 18 year old Canadian Avril Lavigne by now; if not it's a great slice of country tinged pop rock.
If you own the album, so aren't going to bother with the single, I suggest you change your mind. It's definitely worth it for the other two songs on the CD. I Don't Give is a bouncy, energetic track about her not...

1.0 out of 5 stars Angst Lite for today's pop kids.
It isn't really that complicated- Advil (whatever) is some teen girl just as marketed by cynical record companies going for that angst-girl thing, but "You know- for kids". This makes Mandy Moore seem like Fiona Apple. Really...Bovril wears skateboard pants, like it's 1993 and has this cool tie thing going on- look at Devo in the 1970's! The song is the usual sub-Alanis...

I Don't Give is a bouncy, energetic track about her not giving a damn about stupid guys who think they're all that (go girl!), and Why is a really pretty acoustic number with a wonderful vocal and excellent lyrics. It also includes the Complicated video. Go buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!, 31 Aug 2002

Wow, what a great song! It has a catchy tune with a great rock sound. Avril has a voice similar to that of Alanis Morrissette, and this girl can really sing! Watched the VMA's where she performed and she didnt hold back. Love the combination of this song, where the words and melody could almost be a slow song but its put with rock, and it works great. Someone to watch!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best song from 2002, 27 Nov 2002
This review is from: Complicated (Audio CD)
You can't deny how great this song is. The infectiously catchy chorus, the upbeat, summery backing music...it's just great! The song reached it's highest position of number 3 in September 2002 and spent 8 weeks on the top 40 in total. Well, you've probably heard Complicated anyways so what are the 2 bonus tracks like??
Well, "I Don't Give" is a very upbeat, chirpy feel good tune which although, being very good it is understandable why it didn't make the final album cut. It just lacks the power the album cuts have.
Final track "Why" is a very beautiful acoustic number. This sounds a tad like an MTV Unplugged performance and is just an excellent track.
The single has now been deleted to the easiest option is to download the 2 bonus tracks if you really want to hear them and to get the greatest song of 2002 "Complicated" just buy her stunning debut album "Let Go" from amazon =D

5.0 out of 5 stars Best song this year, 28 Aug 2003

Avril Lavigne's debut single denied the main principles of pop. It's not one of those cheesy pop style that Britney Spears would do, but a pop with alot of sound and meaning. Complicated is a song which starts a new era of pop and I hope Avril carries on the good job. 5/5 top marks!

5.0 out of 5 stars Complicated? Anything but...., 26 Aug 2002
This review is from: Complicated (Audio CD)
What can i say about this single which does not already sum it up when you hear it? It is one of the most amazing songs i have ever heard. It begins with a calm intro, then Avril starts signing the first verse, her voice is very strong and eay to listen to and she annunciates very cleary. The song will affect many people who can relate to the lyrics. The chorus is very catchy and this song no wonder has made it to number one in America for over a month, it is amazing. I am advising everyone who likes the angst teenager, skater punk to buy this single and then the album, Avril is the next Alanis, but with the punk on the side, as Avril herself quoted "Rock on, Rock on!"

The song is the usual sub-Alanis bleating about the woes of love, rather than making it into a song , Anvil could have just written some bad 6th form poetry and hidden it in a drawer like anyone else.
Oh, the boys they blow hot and cold and it's so complicated! No, it is more complicated to be HIV positive in Africa where people can't get access to the right drugs or more complicated not to be enducted into the sex industry to support your family in your teens in Thailand . This is just navel based whinging which is , when it comes down to it, about NOTHING.
If you want to hear what this should sound like, try Exile In Guyville by Liz Phair, Rid of Me by PJ Harvey or New York Tendaberry by Laura Nyro. This is a joke.
