4.0 out of 5 stars As Mentioned by Steely Dan, 3 Dec. 2009

This review is from: Green Street (Audio CD)
As mentioned by Steely Dan on their labour-of-love long-player Aja, in the lyrics to the hip-hop sampled Black Cow - "Down to Green Street, there you go, Lookin' so outrageous, and they tell you so" - Green Street is a fine Grant Green album, possibly on a par with the wonderful Idle Moments.
Stripped down to the no-nonsense trio of Green on guitar, Ben Tucker on bass and Dave Bailey on drums, this lp swings nicely in places and is laid-back in others, from the up-tempo No 1 Green Street to a lilting Round About Midnight, a cookin' Grant's Dimensions and a cooler-than-cool Alone Together.
Like all brilliant work, this glistening jewel stands up to close inspection but also works well as background to a relaxing dinner.
If you like Idle Moments, you'll be glad to add this to your collection...

Othere reviewers have covered the ground already, but this is just to say that this is a quintessential Grant Green album and therefore a must for Grant Green or any jazz fan. I would recommend it to everyone.

Grant Green's Green Street a brilliant album and a good recording the original dates to 1962 some good jazz not focused on the players technical ability on the instrument
