4.0 out of 5 stars All the retro fun you'd expect, but..., 6 Oct 2002
This review is from: Super Ghouls 'n' Ghosts (Video Game)
It's quite difficult. 'Quite' in the sense that Hitler was 'quite' naughty. We're talking insanely difficult here. Very, very difficult indeed. Any long-time gamer will tell you, in that elderly 'I remember when this was all fields' kind of way, that games have got easier since the days Ghouls 'n' Ghosts was first out, but it takes a game like this to prove that point. The enemies in the game have something of the unpredictable about them, you see. They move randomly (to an extent) so you might go to jump over something only to find them turn around and you landing slap on top of them. Difficult is indeed the word here.
But this just goes to show what a great game it is. If it were any less of a game you'd give up and play something else, but this game you just want to keep plugging away at becasue you know that somewhere in the simplicity of running, jumping and firing it's possible. And when you do finish that level you've been trying to complete all day, you'll find yourself stifling a 'YEAH! YOU WANT A PIECE OF ME, YOU CRAZY MOTHER?!'
The game looks very good and sounds just like the original with some of the best cod-gothic music ever featured in a game. Arthur's red-spotted boxer shorts have become, quite rightly, the stuff of legend to anyone over the age of 20 and the way he jumps still makes me laugh. As it was on the SNES there is some slow-down when a lot of things are on screen at the same time, which is really inexcusable as the GBA is more powerful than the SNES, but thankfully it's not *that* common.
A great and legendary game only spoilt by a couple of things. As much fun as it used to be.
Did I mention it was difficult?

Oldtimer perfectly adapted to GBA. Great graphics, great action but too difficult. The Original mode is somewhat easier compared to the Arrange mode but even the "Easy" setting does not help me to get through levels..
It's also a pity that u only have one save slot per mode.
