5.0 out of 5 stars The Stranglers-Not so Loud, 30 Oct 2002

At last The Stranglers have brought out an album of re-recordings of older tunes. This album would be called unplugged if it were any other band, but as JJ put it's simply not so loud. There is a great mix of songs from 1978's Walk on By right through to In The End from 1998. The album really does justice to guitarist Baz Warne who sounds superb throughout. Many critics will call this a sort of karaoke album, but anyone with any ear for music will soon realise that todays line up has made these songs there own.Stick it on and open a bottle of wine.

This was an ideal opportunity for the Paul Robert's-era Stranglers to take a step back and revisit their sizeable back catalogue and give a host of songs an acoustic make over. What is rather appealing is that they resisted the urge to go for the hits only. Some lesser known gems are dusted off and reworked here. My personal favourite is Robert's take on 'Old Codger', a Seventies b-side that originally featured the wonderful George Melly on lead vocals. It's a deliberately uncommercial affair which is lovingly recorded, carefully compiled and rather charming.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worthwhile part of any Stranglers collection, 22 Mar 2013

An interesting collection of semi acoustic versions of some of the band's back catalogue.
Worth having as it brings the songs back to life. A particular highlight is the version of Princess of the Streets
