Because of the way it is written, each performance of 'In C' is different. Here, the Styrenes recorded a version somewhat different to when they play it live. The seven musicians recorded the entire piece twice, and then through the magic of computer manipulation, fused the two versions together - making it sound like 14 musicians. Then they added six guitar & keyboard overdubs, and you have what sounds like 20 musicians @ 120 bpm. Unusually, in the recordings of 'In C', this one does not end with the unaccompanied pulse. This is no pub band desecrating a 20th Century masterpiece - there are no self-indulgent drum or guitar solos - the band basically keep to the script. It's not my favourite recording of the piece, but it's interesting and it makes me want to see the 5-piece Styrenes (or however many there are now) perform the piece live. Maybe the band ought to consider releasing a live version.
