Re-hashed but still brilliant,

OK, I make no bones about it, I am a compilation junkie. But then again it is the thought of getting as many of my old 45's on CD that drives me on to buy such albums. This is out of the Capital Gold stable, but with the Capital Gold branding removed now that it has merged with Classic Gold to make "Gold". All the tracks are the same as the original 2002 issue so nowt new. But the original was a cracker anyway so if you did miss it first time around, here is your chance to have it again. It is a super album to bung on the cd player in the car, and just drive. Go on, give your ears a treat.

Rock Legends? Yes And No,

This review is from: Capital Gold Rock Legends (Audio CD)
Capital Gold Rock Legends is the 4th in the Capital Gold series and the first to concentrate solely on one genre. It is compiled by Capital DJ Mike Skinner and so in theory should be his favourite tracks...What is on offer here is good, with great tracks from the 60's (Spencer Davis Group, The Animals, Procol Harum), 70's (Queen, Meat Loaf, Mannfred Mann's Earth Band), 80's (Genesis, Blondie, Peter Gabriel) and even Extreme from the 90's. However, there are still some absolute classics missing like Bachman Turner Overdrive's You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet and Free's All Right Now. It may be good though that these are not included since they appear on many compilations and this also means there may be a second volume. There are also some more surprising choices such as ZZ Top's Legs, John Waite's Missing You as well as Heaven Is A Place On Earth by Belinda Carlisle which isn't really rock. My only grievance is that many of the songs featured here were on early volumes of the series which does detract from this but for fans of the series as well as lovers of good classic rock music this is great cd to have. If only it had some Dire Straits as well.

I bought this because it contains a difficult to find classic song - Python Lee Jackson (featuring Rod Stewart) - "In a broken Dream".I got it at a bargain price and there is probably no other easy way to get hold of that track. All the other stuff is made of rock standards. The sort of thing your old dad might buy for a family party. |
