5.0 out of 5 stars An impressive piece of kit!, 20 Oct 2002
By A Customer
As a recent returnee to the world of portable music I spent a lot of time researching the advances made in this field before deciding on the Sony MZ-G755 minidisc player. My needs were simple- I wanted good quality sound reproduction without the need to carry too much junk around with me all day, plus I wanted a radio too keep up with the news as I travelled. From the moment it arrived the MZ-G755 impressed! A small silver unit ( smaller than a packet of cigarretes! )with a remote control about the size of an AA battery. The unit is admirable portable and if it wasn't for the Headphone wires ( that double as an antenna for the radio ) you wouldn't know that you had it with you! Recording onto the device is a joy due to the synchronized record facility and the optical cable supplied with the unit. You have 4 compression options when recording allowing up to 520 minutes on each disk! In practice I have found the LP2 mode the most satisfactory allowing 160 minutes of music with no noticable drop in quality! Carrying this unit in it's neat carry pouch with an additional couple of disks stowed in my pocket gives all the variety that I need for a days commuting. Battery life is good, one AA cell lasts me over a week and that's using it for the best part of 3 hours per day! Considering that the radio is actually contained in the remote control unit reception is fantastic. Although,as I expected, reception does deteriorate in built up areas and on trains etc.. But that's the point of two units in one! when the radio reception is poor - switch to music from the MD. When I ordered this device I thought that it was expensive but if you are a fan of quality music on the move and need a radio as well as music then this is the device you want! Good job Sony!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sony MZ - G755, 10 April 2003
By A Customer
I aint had an MD before. I knew I wanted one with a radio so choice was pretty limited. However I'm quite chuffed with this, despite having nothing to compare to.
Reading other reviews people always bang on about sound quality but for my hearing sound aint such a great issue. Also with it being just that, a portable gadget, sound aint going to be top notch anyway? Its perfectly adequate for me. I would say though that after my old walkman casette radio, even i could notice and appreciate the big improvement in sound quality. The radio is pretty good when out and about in the town or country but it aint been tested in larger urban areas yet. I was impressed with the way it found the stations on auto find etc. when setting up. Not bad for a little thing.
I also like the feel of the MD. It is nice and compact and feels solid. It makes the right sort of noises when opening to insert a disc etc.If you're a bloke you'll know what I mean. I also like the way the disc pops half out when you open the case to change it.
The one rechargable battery is great, it lasts plenty long enough before needing recharging, and anything that lasts for eight hours is more than adequate when it can easily be chargeed up again.
The remote is good too. The hold button on the remote overides the hold on the MD which which is handy, and all the different functions and positions on it are soon learnt.
The machine is supposed to be jog proof but dont believe a word. Its not too bad if you can position it on your person that limits the MD's movement, but if you're a jogger with the grace of an elephant as am I, uninterupted sound on the MD will be hard to achieve. A mate told me that if the thing had moving parts it wouldnt be jog proof, and he was right. However flick the MD onto radio as opposed to disc for jogging.
The little pouch to hold the MD is fine for the task when a jacket etc doesnt have an adequate pocket. I reckon the belt clip could have had a little lip on it to stop it slipping off the belt etc.
I've still to try the recording functions as I have a MD hifi seperate prior to buying this but i'm sure that'll be as simple
as the rest of the MD. The MD came with a cable fro the task.
One of the best things about this MD is price with Amazon which I found to be about £40 cheaper than the cheapest place i could find elsewhere, so I reckon I've got a good little machine at an excellent price. It arrived 3/4 days after I posted my cheque off which I thought was great service. I'm not at all disappointed in this item and can find no reason to put other people off from getting one, and thats coming from Mr Picky, the most picky person from McPicky land!

5.0 out of 5 stars Tasty, 25 Feb 2003
By Dickie Mint (Cardiff, Cardiff United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
Having returned to commuting on public transport I decided that some music on the move was required and my old cassette Sony Walkman just didn't cut it anymore. So I opted for the MZ-G755 in order to be able to both record CD's and have the radio option. And I am genuinely impressed. Straight out of the box I'd recorded a couple of CD's on LP4 and they sound great. The unit itself is small, light, and easy to use ... the remote can be used to control the MD as well as the radio. It also comes with a rechargeable battery that charges in the unit. The only gripe I have is the headphones - they work fine but one of the cables is a bit short and keeps pulling the headphone out of my ear. As long as it lasts as long as my cassette Walkman (13 years or so) I'll be happy. You could do a hell of a lot worse and at the Amazon price I reckon it's a top bargain.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great choice!, 14 May 2003
By Claire (Nottingham, England) - See all my reviews
I'd only ever used a cassette walkman before and I chose this particular player because it has a radio too and because it was on special offer!

I can honestly say that I'm delighted with it - I've no idea how it compares to other minidisc players, but it's easy to use and I find the sound quality to be very good. You can control all playback and radio via the little remote control.

I have to record via a headphone socket (as will anyone with a basic home midi system - you will need an extra cable for this, easy to find in any electrical goods store), but the result is still way better than listening to cassettes! Needless to say, the discs are a lot easier to carry round than cassettes too, and in playback you have all the flexibility of listening to cds (in addition, you have total control over the track marks).

The only gripe I have (and it's a minor one that probably applies to all players) is that it's sometimes tricky to clip the remote control to clothing and keep it discreet - it might be helpful if the clip part rotated in some way.

This was an expensive purchase for me, but as I use this player almost on a daily basis it has to be one of my best buys ever and worth every penny.

4.0 out of 5 stars The only model with a radio..., 13 Jan 2003
I decided the time had finally come to go Mini, so i had a look at what was available and eventually settled for this model, as it was the only one out there with a radio too. Why don't more models feature this, as an AM/FM radio is really useful when you're on the move but still want to catch a football match or news bulletin etc. Anyway, the price was also quite good ..and it looked like a nice piece of kit. So far it's done pretty well - it's sleek, easy to use and the instruction manual is clear enough. I've been recording old cassettes onto MD in LP4 mode and since the old cassettes weren't exactly high quality recordings, there's no real loss in quality. This means i can get about 4 or 5 "c90" tapes onto one MD.
Only real gripe is that it says it has an "in-line" remote control but in reality all it does is operate the radio and let you control the volume. You can't use it to stop or start the MD playing. So far so good, then - a nice thing, although probably soon to be outdated with the development of 'net' MD players/recorders.

5.0 out of 5 stars GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!, 21 Feb 2003
By Paddy Man (Esher,Surrey,England) - See all my reviews
I received the MD just today. I immediatly noticed it very trendy
and modern look. i tried the radio first and the reception was very good, the volume was good and i find the remote very usefull. This is my first Md and if all Mds are as good as this then go buy them!!! It is very usefull and light. There are only two problems. Where the battery goes in makes a bump at the back of it. It still slipped into my pocket very easily. The other wrong with it is that there is not a cord to connect the Md to a analog source. There is only a cable to connect it to a digital source. I was quite excited when it came but soon became very dissapointed when i could not download. You can buy the cable in any half decent electricians. So no big deal. Overall sony have pleased me again as usual.

4.0 out of 5 stars I just bought this Yesterday!, 13 April 2003
Well, lets see, at first glance it seemed a bit chunky which put me off, but the thought of having a radio on the go sounded pleasant. I mean once you finish with your minidisc, or you get bored of the music on there, you have got an unlimited source of music on the radio.

The sound quality on here is great, even with the supplied headphones. If this MD had a NET function, it would much greater. The battery could have been the slimmer size one, the NH-14M(A), but with the price, i guess i couldn't argue. The remote is another dissapointment, it looks quite slim from the front, but when you see it from the side, its CHUNKY!!! The remote does not even display the characters of the songs names either.

Other than that, the MD-G755, is a reasonable MD, it does what you want it to, play your music, record from other sources digitally, and when you get bored of that, you can listen to the radio!

5.0 out of 5 stars sony MZ-G755 in line remote control, 16 Mar 2003
By A Customer
The remote control works both with the radio option and the MD option. I previously read an earlier review (Jan 2003) before I bought my unit, which said that the in-line remote control only works with the radio. The buyer might have taught this was the case, as the MD options are not clearly listed in the customer MD leaflet.
The remote certainly works with the MD. Use the fast forward/ rewind button/winder on the remote, to select/repeat tracts. Use radio off to switch off play. It is an excellent unit.

5.0 out of 5 stars All that you could possibly want, 28 April 2004
I was looking for a minidisc with radio so I went and bought this for£160. It was special offer in Argos
But now I know how it functions, I would willingly pay £200 for it. Itoffers syrinchonised recording, good quality sound and battery power thatlasts. But best is the fact I can preset fm radio stations. I have 3 of mylocal radio stations(Eagl, Delta and Wave105 just a click away from eachother so no bothersome radio station changing is required. On Saturdays Iuse am to lsiten to Radio five lIve, cos I am an avid Arsenalsupporter.
Anyway, enough about radio. The minidisc is everything you expect andmore.
One minor improvement they could make was to have a program function

5.0 out of 5 stars This minidisc is just brillianyt, 2 April 2004
Can hardly fault this minidisc. I just love the fact that it has a radio encoparated within it. Reception on the minidisc is suprisingly good and I have a nuber of local stastions already preset onto it.
The minidisc itself is just fab. It has syrichonized recordings and allows you to record from just about anything.

Superb package. If you enjoy listening to music I would recommend this prodeuct, the ultimate minidisc package
