5.0 out of 5 stars Enter JCC - the sociologist finding his paradise, without repeats...
A must for anyone who is capable of thought, this collection will stun you on its first hearing (this is normal, it will always happen), the lyrics/poems having a raw power that will make you wonder why you have never been able to write as he can. Scared of no-one, there can be no doubt JCC is fearless in what he does write, but that's not to be thought of as arrogance in...

3.0 out of 5 stars Very Mixed
Very mixed compilation.
Some live recordings and some with very dodgy music!
Evidently Chickentown (one of my personal favourites) is awful!
Bontempi organ music and words changed, well one in particular word,
all the F's swopped for B's!!
Whats that all about!!

Simple and complicated, stupid and profound this collection is just genius. How he never became poet laureate is beyond me. he is just so accessible to anyone with half a brain.

Wonderfull exactly what the creative mind craves. having being a Bob dylan fan from being about 16 i found john to be an equally talented and after going to see him in york i was convinced. a trully humble warm and witty star who deserves a lot more recognition.

Why don't they forget the band & just let the man speak. Irritating & annoying backing ruins these great poems.

5.0 out of 5 stars Before he did the school tours, 16 April 2003
This review is from: Word Of Mouth - The Very Best Of John Cooper Clarke (Audio CD)
Its true, John Cooper Clarke made poetry/music, thats how it went. He read his poetry along to music. This is the only way you will find him on cd. So for all you little schoolies who see him at the poetry live things you go to, this is the best you will get, music + jcc, the way it was meant to be. never the less, this is a top album and in many ways, the music adds to his lyrics.

4.0 out of 5 stars A response to previous reviewer Michael J. Menary, 13 Aug 2006

John Cooper Clarke is a genius. Poet and visionary.

I saw him touring with The Fall last year and he stole the show.

Okay so he's not to your taste - what were you expecting WB Yeats? I refer you to Track 7. Sums it up nicely.

Admittedly I'd rather plump for the recently released 'Ou Est La Maison Du Fromage' but there you go.

Michael probably thinks Half Man Half Biscuit aren't as good musicans as Emerson Lake and Palmer as well, eh?

Missing the point doesn't come near it.
