2.0 out of 5 stars Way too short
No character development, no excitement and completely void of any real story. There are 9 missions but they are just too short. multi-Player mode is ok (reminds me of a cartoony red faction 2 player mode) but I was let down by the length of the game. Not enough time to really grasp the game.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best of the series, 26 Mar 2006
This review is from: TimeSplitters 2 (PS2) (Video Game)
As you all must know, this game is a massive improvement from TS1. And I mean MASSIVE.
The story mode is excellent:
The timesplitters and humans are in a war, but the humans are losing because the timesplitters are using time crystals to travel back in time and kill all the humans. When a small ship arrives at the timesplitters base to steal the crystals, the timesplitters protect the crystals by hiding them in different places in different times, future and past. So you go after them.
We see some old characters like Captain Ash and Harry Tipper. Examples of levels are: Notre Dam and Planet X.
The arcade has got way better games, including the all new assault, virus, zones and many more. They also have kept the best arcade games from the last one such as deathmatch and capture the bag. You also have new guns in this game like the flamethrower. And more interesting characters like Elijah Jones and Viola. It contains better levels like Ice station and training ground.
Also there is an arcade league, which is a bit like challenge. But you play arcade game challenges like assault. With this you can unlock characters, game modes and guns. What you unlock is determined by what trophy you get for each challenge - gold, silver and bronze.
The challenge mode is back with more fun challenges, such as shooting clay monkeys and shooting as much zombies as you can. You also unlock things by completing the challenges.
The brilliant mapmaker is back with a bigger choice of tiles and better graphics. You can make your maps several feet high, whether small maps or large maps they are great. The only promblem is that even though you have loads of different tiles to choice from, you don't have many tile styles unlike the first one.
This game is a first person shooter. With story, challenge, arcade and mapmaker you will naver get bored of this game.
Graphics: 9/10
Gameplay: 10/10
Storyline: 9.5/10
Length/Lifespan: 10/10
Overall: 9.5/10

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best First Person Shooter, 28 Oct 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: TimeSplitters 2 (PS2) (Video Game)
I'm a massive fan of FPS games, and following the heavy gameplay of Medal of Honor Frontline, Timesplitters 2 was the perfect game to bring the sunshine back. Featuring some of the best graphics I've seen in a game of it's type and the differing levels lets the game avoid the tedious nature of repetition. The game has numerous laughs.
As with most games of it's type Timesplitters 2 really comes alive when you have a group of friends gathered round, merry carnage was never so much fun. However full praise to the developers for having the wisdom to introduce a completely new 1 player game, the words vast improvement, don't do it justice.
and then there's the map editor / creator, with means you can never really end this game, because you can always build something else.
If you're looking for a First person Shooter game that'll last Timesplitters 2 is the best.

5.0 out of 5 stars Timesplitters is back and better than ever!!!, 10 Dec 2002
By
This review is from: TimeSplitters 2 (PS2) (Video Game)
The first timesplitters was released on the launch date of the ps2 and still remains to be one of the best multiplayer games yet. Although we have to face the facts, the game wasn't as good as goldeneye. The single player mode felt rushed and had very little variety. Most people admit they played the game just for it's fantastic multiplayer action. Now timesplitter's 2 is out, and it's every bit as good as you expected and better!
Firstly the single player has been upgraded dramatically, and now there are more level's each one unique in their own way.
The levels range from 1853 'wild west' to 2315 'robot factory'.
Not only are the levels different, the goals themselves have also been changed. In the previous game the objective was simple:
collect an object and return it to the beggining of the level.
This was one of the main reasons i was soon returning the game to a second hand shop! Now the levels work by using multiple objectives, and to add extra variety some of the levels contain secondary objectives. Although you do not have to complete these secondary objectives, there is an immense feeling of satisfaction if you do complete them. The objectives themselves differ in the levels. In the neo tokyo level you must trail a hacker back to her base, great for mgs fans! While on the atomsmasher level you will find yourself disarming bombs in an evil villians base. All objectives are great fun and you will find yourself replaying levels over and over again.
The latest addition to the single player also includes cutscenes.
The cutscenes look great and introduce some of the craziest characters to the game. Single player is both amusing and classy.
Now you all want to know about the multiplayer and i wont dissapoint you. It's back and is also better than ever! With 16 different game modes, 12 different maps and 90 crazy characters to unlock you will find endless replay value in multiplayer.
A new addition to the multiplayer is 'arcade league'. This allows you to complete multiplayer levels against bots unreal tournament style! Completing levels with high scores will unlock new characters and maps. Like i said masses of replay value.
Other features include the return of the challenge mode.
This time it's much harder but even more rewarding. And yes there are monkeying around mini games! There are also secrets to be found in the game including game cartiridges!
Overall everything has been improved graphics, gameplay, sound, and replay value! Trust me you will lose nights of sleep!
Buy or rent?
A tough one, some people will dislike the cartoonish look of timesplitters 2, and may prefer gritty realsim like in 'medal of honour'. But you really should give it a chance and rent it.
However if you played and enjoyed the first one, dont heasitate just buy this amazing game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Be-hatchin game, 29 May 2004
This review is from: TimeSplitters 2 (PS2) (Video Game)
This game is damn good. It has an amazing selection of characters and really cool scenery. Timesplitters 2 is a multiplayer first person shooter game, about time travel.
GAMEPLAY- the graphics are smooth and realistic (as far as cartoon style games go) and it's not hard to get used to the controls. There are no crosshairs on this game, which makes it hard, but there is an option to put auto aim on (which basically means that if you are aiming somewhere near the enemy, you will hit them.
STORY- Like I said before, the characters are made with a sort of cartoon style, which also affects the story. The story is slightly cartoon like, but is still playable and interesting.
The story is following on from Timesplitters, and you wouldn't understand some of it without having played it, but it's still enjoyable.
SCENERY- The scenery is not cartoony, like the characters are, but much more realistic. There is variety of different locations from many time periods. There is also a change in the layouts of different levels, e.g. open space arena, mazes, and complexes.
GAME MODES- There is three general game modes. Challenge, arcade and story. Story has been explained earlier, it is simpler to James Bond and Red Faction levels. Arcade is either custom, or league. Custom allows you to choose game styles like death match, capture the bag etc, and league is predefined games set up so you can unlock rewards. Challenge is mini games set up to unlock more awards, but in little games like smash 30 windows in this time limit, for example.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Classic, 19 Feb 2007
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: TimeSplitters 2 (PS2) (Video Game)
Ok. It's hard to define any video game as a 'classic', but this has to come pretty close.

This was one of my first PS2 games, but having just been playing it again, it still stands tall as one of the best. Sure, it has its flaws: single player is far from ground-breaking, graphics now look relatively aged and it has been replaced with the slicker, shinier Timesplitters FP, but do I care?

No. I love this game. Its greatest attribute is its arcade, filled with characters, excellent terrains, and more guns than you can shake a stick at. I cannot count the number of hours I have wasted playing endless 'capture the bag' games with friends, without getting even slightly bored.

True, its heyday is well passed, and many people would be tempted by newer, more cutting edge FPS games, but nevertheless, if you can get a good second hand copy at a cheap price, it will be well worth it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Arguably the best multiplayer FPS of all time, 18 Aug 2004

Timesplitters 2 is a game that doesn't have much of a story line but it takes you accross many periods in time to do battle with evil forces in the story mode with my favourite being the wild west, but enough of that this game shines in its multilayer, the bots are very good and there's a huge selection of weapons and a very simple but flexible mapmaker which allows you to create your own levels It also has loads of multiplayer modes from normal deathmatch and team deatchmatch to flametag which has one person running around on fire with their health decreasing and they have to pass the flame on by touching someone else and loads more, There are also loads of characters cowboys to soldiers and more ludicrous ones such as floating snowmen and circus to a fishbowl (complete with fish) headed robot. In single player mode you have the normal story mode which is good butthere is much more fun to be had in the extra challenge and arcade league modes which set you funny and stupid challenges such as throwing bricks through a set amount of windows in the allotted time ,ost of these challenges are very fun and allow you to unlock more modes, characters and levels for use in multiplayer.
This is certainly my most favourite Multiplayer FPS and even those who hate FPS's love this and those who love FPS's love it even more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gaming Perfection!!!!!, 13 Mar 2004
This review is from: TimeSplitters 2 (PS2) (Video Game)
This game is the ultimate first person shooter. The multiplayer is fun for years and years. I have had it for over two years and I still havn't completed it or got all the characters and I usually complete even some of the hardest games in a week. Anyone who doesn't like this game doesn't deserve a PS2. It's a must buy everyone who has a console should own it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best first person shooter EVER!!, 20 Oct 2002

This review is from: TimeSplitters 2 (PS2) (Video Game)
Well, well, well, I have not been able to find a better 1st person shooter than Goldeneye on the N64, maybe with the exception being Halo. But Eidos have pulled a right corker out of the bag! This game is stunning in every aspect, right down to the simple things, such as amazingly brilliant playability.
The graphics have been vamped up from the original as well as
all the game modes. There is loads of new stuffm which makes the game bigger, better, faster and furious than the original!
You get to battle through 9 massive levels, all in a different
time period, therefore giving each level its unique look.
You can choose from over 100 characters (count them, yes over 100!) featuring ones from the original and new ones aswell.
There is a new improved story mode featuring a complex narrative and animated cut scenes that just add to the atmosphere, all this and also the option to play the infinitely addictive multi-player games (2, 3 or 4 players) and new challenge games.
This is an absolute must purchase for anyone who owns a PS2.

5.0 out of 5 stars J'adore!, 20 Jun 2007
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: TimeSplitters 2 (PS2) (Video Game)
Too fun to be true. This is a game which was custom made for simple enjoyment, no gritiness needed, no pretentious story line, just a gun in your hand and lots of garish enemies to shoot with it. Sublime.

The idea of a time travelling FPS was in my opinion pure genius. It opened open so many possibilities, which suddenly seem reasonable in their context. Taking on wave after wave of zombies in a crypt and next thing shooting down flying saucers over an alien plenet. The wealth of charecters and locations are great but superficial, the real treat is the variety of weapons at your disposal, crossbows you can light on torches and at the other extreme laserguns which can emmit protective sheilds in front of you.

Although the single player story mode is entertaining (the Goldeneye tribute Dam level, being in my mind the highpoint) the finest point of timesplitters 2 has to be the multiplayer (arcade) mode. The real secret of this game has to be the classic control system and fluid gameplay, which opens the door for some unrivalled friends vs friends action, leading teams of AI fighters, a duel between two players amidst the chaos becomes a showdown. Frantic strafing and blasting ensues, comiserations and the bragging rights result. As with any Timesplitters game a multitab, three friends, some drinks and snacks are the must have accessories.

The mapmaker further ensures that this is a game which won't wear off any time soon. When inspiration lands mapmaker levels can become part of the games' fabric and you'll return to your finest acheivements again and again. I would say however that in TS2's case mapmaker is best used for arcade mode, as a limit on ten AI opponents severely limits the scope for homemade story levels (one of the few things Future Perfect has up on its predecesor).

Anyone who loves a good shooter and has a PS2 needs this, urgently. Do yourselves a favour, buy it.

Time Splitters 2 is an amazing game for its time! The gameplay graphics are almost timeless in the fact that you can never really say their bad, and considering how old this game is now thats a very good thing!
And even compared to shooters today the range of features (mini games, characters, multiplayers ect ect) is vast. But again, some games with todays standards have surpassed it, like TimeSplitters 3 for example.
There are a decent amount of levels and challanges to keep you busy and this is one of a few games that has a decent (sometimes a little too imaginitive) story!
There is a decent amount of guns and the enemy AI is aleright!
Overall this is a classic! Mabe not as good as TimeSplitters 3 but still a great game and you can buy it very cheap now!
