4.0 out of 5 stars High Fidelity = High Quality
I am not a big fan of soundtrack albums - too often they contain 50% strong, recognisable tracks from the film, with the remaining 50% filled with poor quality tracks inserted to ensure that there are enough songs to make a soundtrack CD. There are a few notable exceptions, the best of which is probably Good Morning Vietnam.

3.0 out of 5 stars doesn't live up to the film
there are more and better songs on the actual film soundtrack than included here. it would have been easy to make a better soundtrack album than this. as it is it's average when it could have been 5 stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars High Fidelity = High Quality, 3 Sep 2003

This review is from: High Fidelity: Music from the Original Motion Picture (Audio CD)
Thankfully, High Fidelity manages to capture the essence of both the film and the book. Whilst the songs on the album do not necessarily represent the more popular songs from the artists (The Kinks "Everyboby's Gonna Be Happy", for example), they capture the spirit of the bands, and the energy of the film.
The album, whether by design or by accident, manages to meet the criteria set out in the film for recording a compilation album:
"You have to start out with something really great, something that is going to grab their attention. Then, you gotta take it up a notch. But you don't want to blow your load to soon, so then you have to bring it down..."
There are few "weaker" tracks on the CD, and those few are well supported by timeless Bob Dylan (Most of the time), classic Velvet Underground (Who Loves The Sun), and wonderfully psychadelic Beta Band (Dry The Rain).
All in all, a great album, and well worth its place in any CD rack.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great movie, great soundtrack., 19 July 2006

Wow, what a great soundtrack! Right from the outset the album starts off with the opening track from the film the fabulous 'You're Gonna Miss Me' by The Thirteenth Floor Elevators, and ends with Stevie Wonder's 'I Believe (When I Fall In Love It Will Be Forever)'. But I feel the pinnacle of the album is Jack Black's rendition of Marvin Gaye's 'Let's Get It On', great in the movie, great on the soundtrack. Every song on the album is top notch, if you are a fan of the movie make sure you add this to your cd collection!

This soundtrack just gets better and better...A great start with The Jam's "A Town called Malice", and leading to Velvet Underground, Dylan's "Most of the Time", and an excellent version of "Lets Get it on"...you'll find some of you're old faves on this - one for the collection. Great film also...buy this album, you won't be disappointed!

4.0 out of 5 stars Love is missing..., 2 Feb 2001

High Fidelity is (in this order) a great book, a great film, and a great soundtrack. This "uk extra-tracks version", though, is missing the most important piece: Love's "Always See Your Face", one of the best and most underrated songs ever writen. It's still a great CD - Dylan's "Most of the Time" would be good enough reason to buy the record - but it's a pity they didn't thought of fiting the entire movie soundtrack into a box set...

5.0 out of 5 stars American version with slightly different tracklist to the UK version, 27 Aug 2013

I'd actually worn out the UK released CD and on looking for a replacement the US version had a couple of different tracks, including
Love's "Always See Your Face",- not only a superb song in its own right, but its use in the film as Rob seeks to win back Laura from his horrible hippy neighbour, is one of many which mark this as one of the best soundtrack albums ever.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent, 8 Mar 2001
By A Customer

having read the book, and being new to this area of music i was really looking forward to the film. the soundtrack did not disappoint, but to have to cut it down to one cd must have been a complete nightmare. however, the production team behind this have surpassed themselves. it is an excellent album, with a mixture of songs, and deserves every compliment writable. buy it!

4.0 out of 5 stars good, but where are the rest of the tracks !, 24 July 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: High Fidelity (Audio CD)
This album is pretty good, particularly the beta band, but there are a number of tracks missing. As far as I can see none of the tracks available for download, and only two of the tracks on the independent cd are included. Call me sad, but any record that misses Sy Smith's 'Good and Strong' is deeply impoverished by its abscence.

An inspired movie which has a correspondingly brilliant soundtrack. All killer no filler. Just wish we had all the tracks from the movie. Double cd next time please.
