This review is from: Four Hand Piano Music Vol. 7 (Matthies, Kohn) (Audio CD)
Brahms' piano transcriptions of his own works exhibit a high degree of "engineering", which is just what you would expect from the great man.

This volume contains four-hand piano versions of the familiar second and third symphonies and I highly recommend them. Somehow, the piano clarifies the often complex stuctures Brahms used in his orchestral works. Back before recorded music, these transcriptions were often the only way in which works such as symphonies could be heard by the majority of the populace.

Very much worth trying out.
