I've played many games in my time and non has ever kept me hooked like this game. I started playing Counterstrike in 2001 then moved on to Condition Zero when it was released and its only got better! Fantastic addictive game that just keeps you coming back for more. The game takes requires skill, timing, learning the maps and well planned tactics! Learn your guns and which work best with which map, each gun fires as if they were a real gun so make sure you learn their pros and cons well. There are also lots of 'Fun' servers where there are custom maps where you can (for instance) only play knives, only play scouts, pistols, etc.. or where you are as tiny as rats and run around a large Kitchen, etc killing your opponant. The game does take a lot of practice as you will probably find you die quite easy the first few times when your playing online, but once you get into the swing of things there is no turning back.
This game isnt the worlds number 1 online action game for nothing! And for a measily tenner, its worth every penny and more!

Counter strike is probably the best online game. Don't be put off by dieing immediatly on games, keep on practising and choose different skill levels. I bought this game 3/4 of a year ago and i'm still playing. To play online i would advise having broadband because you need fast reactions and slow movements will not aid you. But the offline mode is as good and trains you up!
BUY THIS GAME!!!!

This game is brilliant, the single player missions arn't the best but are still good. What is really fantastic about the game is the online play. It has revamped all the maps from counter strike 1.6 and in my opinion made the gameplay for fun.
Once you get into this game you will be addicted.

This page is for reviews of Counter-Strike: Condition Zero, not Counter-Strike. As of this date (Aug 26, 2003) Counter-Strike: Condition Zero has NOT been released, therefore any reviews on this page should not be considered meaningful in any way. This is a warning to anyone who may stumble upon them.

Having got my eager and sweaty hands on a copy of the preview code of Gearbox's latest masterpiece, condition zero I couldnt wait to try it on my new homemade watercooled games machine.
Having installed the software and spent ages tweaking the games settings, I finally loaded it up and had a go. My initial impression was one of 'hey it's counter strike' 'but with guys in hockey masks' no really, although not posessing cutting edge Doom 3 graphics the tweaked Half Life engine still has some mileage, the main improvement being that the guns don't have square barrels anymore. Another major change is that the game is now totally team oriented, and features a quite complicated interface to give orders to other members of the team. Which leads me to another major improvement. No longer do you have to install llama bot and watch your computer controlled opponents bunnyhop into walls, the AI opponents are almost indistinguishable from the real thing, and more than match for all but the most hardened geeks. The final addition has been 'Guns, lots of guns!' instead of using that 9mm pea-shooter
you can now blast away with a 66mm LAW anti tank weapon (kinda like an RPG for those who haven't read Tom Clancy). The beta code plays somewhat like a mix of the original CS, Operation Flashpoint and Project IGI which is no bad thing. Sadly however, Randy Pitchford's much talked about interactive scripted sequences are not in the preview code, but if they are as good as the rest of the game, then it's a sure winner. Bring on Half Life 2!

So, you're worried they have ruined the true Counter-Strike feeling? They've not. They've made it 150 times more accessable, more fun and more detailed, but they've not lost contact with what turned CS into the single most popular online game ever.
CS:CZ can be split into two halves - Online and Offline. Offline, there are missions, which envolve hostage rescue, bomb defusal, VIP defence and others. There is also 'Stimulated Multiplayer' - bots to make it feel like you're playing online. Great if you don't have access or the money to play online.
But the real meaning of CS is when you connect to online servers and put bullets in your friends, and then rub it in again with a well timed grenade. Yes, you will have to put up with lag, but if you get yourself a nice connection, the world is your oyster.
I give this a nice 8/10 for offline play, and 11/10 for online. Yes, it's that good.

The people that have given this game a bad review, have NO IDEA that they were playing the Beta version of the game, since then, valve have redone the game; and made it much better (as of 16th december 2003)
there is a multiplayer mode (which is just like counter-strike) it has the same maps, but all of the graphics in the new version have been revamped
please forget about the warez/beta version because valve recognized how bad it was, thats why they scrapped it.

Was very scard buying this after playing CS from its Beta days. Didnt know what to expect. The single player is OK for begineers and should help them onto the road of addiction into the Mult-player online mode.
The maps have been jazzed up and they look rather neat as have the player skins. Maps that were dominated by one side Eg Milita are now sorted, although one or two are still needed.
I would reccomed this to Vets of CS and new people to the Online gaming world :)

Well i was really looking forward to abit of team action, like conflict desert storm, so i was a little let down when i found out you cant control the other players, only inluence them a little. They run off and do their own thing, most of the time hindering the mission because they kill all the terrorists before i can get the hostages out. Very very frustrating at times, but does have its good bits. Graphics are reasonable, my graphics card is a shoddy 16mb job, so i have to have everything turned down, and it still slows down if all the other people are near to me. This makes it very hard to enter a room full of terrorists and not be shot to death because i cant turn around quick enough to kill them all. Single player is ok, but flawed and frustrating. Havent played online yet as it has to update, which takes hours, so havent found the time to play over the internet yet. If the online gameplay is as good as the original it should be another classic online multiplayer.

I see nothing wrong with paying a little money for a truly great game, now made greater with updated textures, bot AI, guns (hehe) and a single player mode for the under-privaleged non LAN/online player. While playing counter strike I couldn't help feeling a distinct lack of explosions (in reference to the downer on rocket launchers). I have to remind you that these are (already proven) professional games designers. And the introduction of more power weapons, I think, should be welcomed. All weapons have an upside and a downside, a rocket launcher will be no exception! A rocket launcher will favour those more direct players (Quakers). But CS encourages so many types of play, people are forced to adapt to include different styles. I personally favour the super-sneaky-shadow-hiding-git tactics and the run-at-him-with-your-chib tactics as these provide the best entertainment and the most derisive insults from my victims... I mean friends. We've enjoyed our free school meals for too long. I don't mind paying for a big juicy stake with blue cheese sauce, topped with a kebab and a haggis supper.... SO THERE!!!
