5.0 out of 5 stars Superb!, 16 Jun. 2002

Murphy delivers once more. This CD is superb and has a more than regular position in my CD player. The best way to describe this CD is if you`ve listened to Gabriel`s "Last Temptation of Christ", then add a tinge of Sylvianesque gadgetering here and there followed by Murphy`s evocative lyrics and vocals and you have this masterpiece. There is an eerie eastern influence throughout, but there is beauty, depth and feeling in this music. You can shut your eyes and depending on your mood, conjure up any image you want to. Excellent CD Pete!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Peter Murphy delivers eastern promise.............., 29 May 2002

Peter Murphy never disappoints, and this offering is no exception. The first track, Things To Remember, is a mindblowing sound of haunting vocals and soaring music, which sets the tone for the duration of the C.D. Electric violin and Turkish instruments give a unique sound and complement Murphys deep and seductive vocals.
Lyrically challenging, as always, Dust has all the influences of previous works. Go ahead, give your ears a treat !

This is full of intresting sounds. Murphys voice is compared to Bowie at times, that's how good he is and yet his voice is unique. At times there are parts of this music that remind me of 'Gone To Earth' by Sylvian. Again that's how good this is. It's very good, and just gets better on each listen. This is Murphy with a Eurasian touch. Although the Turkish influences dominate, it's not invasive, it's tastefull, there are moments where it's not there at all. Interesting interpretations of 'My Last Two Weeks' and 'Subway', the original versions of which can be found on previous albums.
My enjoyment is tarnished by the fact that my disc has what sounds like a badly scratched vinyl record would sound like running through parts of tracks 5 and 8. Disappointing. Amazons MP3 recording for track 8 has the same problem. I haven't returned it as I risk my replacement being the same and I don't want to be without this music.
What would 'Bela Lugosi's Dead' sound like if it had been included here ?

Songs From Golden Dust

This album was made in ? not 2001! It's a diamond amongst stones, and like the diamond it has an authentic and geniune sparkle. The whole musical environment sounds natural and spontaneous and it's as if Peter has returned or found a place or environment, which he has always been part of and comfortable with. Peter's incredible voice reflects/mirrors the music so naturally and perfectly... That diamond voice cut from a star, unveils its colourfully rich baritone caress, in a much more intimate and spontaneous style. Dust has a cool spacious quality coloured with a spiritual beauty that allows the listener to journey both the spiritual and metaphysical realms of their own perennial/infinite realm... the heart! This is Peter Murphy singing from the home within his heart... Dust is free from the reigns of commercialization.

A great sense of being, humility and a feeling of great purity emanates from this powerful album... A beauty and clarity that is something quite special and undefinable. This album has such a cool balance... It is neither from the east or the west, but from the middle way. Many people are going to find this album really inspiring, it's unique! I was scented away and to put that experience into action is quite simple... "The proof, as always, must come with the eating, so I suggest you claim your portion and relish it".
