This review is from: Silent Night Fever (Audio CD)
Do you ever wish to harken back to the glory days of melodic death metal circa 1996? Can't get enough of the Jester Race? Never get tired of Slaughter of the Soul? Then step up my friend; Silent Night Fever is the ticket you've been waiting for...

Featuring In Flames guitarists Jesper Strömblad and Glenn Ljungström and former Marduk vocalist Jocke Gothberg behind the microphone, Dimension Zero bring some serious Gothenburg-style death metal to the table. Unlike Strombalds former group, the band takes a similar approach to At the Gates and Arch Enemy; fast, aggressive and brutal without much of the acoustics or proggressive elements. However, the melodies are classic In Flames (I wonder why), so the best way to describe this is At The Gates/Arch Enemy with In Flames-ish melodies. And if that sounds like a good combination to you, you're in for a treat. Free of electronics, clean vocals, keyboards and any other elements that have crept into the Gothenburg sound in recent years, Silent Night Fever represents one of the best exambles of unadulterated, pure blistering melodic death since the mid-ninties. The band whip up a pure metal maelstrom of crushing riffery and Jocke's paint-stripping vocals, while the stratospherical melodies from Strombald and Ljungstrom give the music that magical Gothenburg vibe that never gets old, at least for me.

If you've always been a bit skeptical of melodic death metal then there's nothing on Silent Night Fever that will change that. It's a bare knuckle ride to melodeth heaven (or hell) that makes no apologies and isn't trying to win over any new fans. However, the band are pretty damn good at what they do, and Silent Night Fever is one of the best Gothenburg sounding albums not to come from the big 3 (In Flames, DT and At the Gates) in my book. Likewise, if you're not into the electronics and clean vocals that have come to define a lot of modern melodic death, this'll do ya proud.

For fans of: In Flames (older), At the Gates, Arch Enemy, Nightrage, Callanesh Circle, God Dethroned. Darkane, Gates of Ishtar, Fragments of Unbecoming, etc
