4.0 out of 5 stars Lisa Does It again!!!, 7 Mar. 2002
This review is from: Cake And Pie (Audio CD)
Being a fan of Lisa's other 2 offerings I couldn't wait to hear what new material she had been working on.
Cake and Pie starts off with the familar in 'The Way It Really Is', then the next 2 tracks deliver typical Lisa lyrics and hooks, leaving you remembering why you loved Lisa in the first place. Very catchy! The album has the usual slow acoustic driven tracks aswell as more rocker ones, and they balance out and compliment well. A particular favourite of mine is 'You Don't Know Me' with its amazing whistle-driven interludes.
Altogether this album does not disappoint and is maybe more consistant that her last, but I couldn't help wondering if it was more of the same.... however I did enjoy it! Lisa fans will love it!!!! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the good ones, 8 April 2002
This review is from: Cake And Pie (Audio CD)
It looks like Geffen records are on a roll this year, producing album after album of great music, from Aerosmith to, well, Lisa Loeb. Lisa may not be a chart wonder, but with regards to songwriting abilities, she's a phenomenon. This album contains a plethora of different songs, ranging from the slow and romantic, to the fast and up-tempo. Well done to the librarian of pop - this is one you definately will not be keeping on the shelf.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lisa Loeb "Cake & Pie", 29 Dec. 2010

This is one of the best from Lisa. If you are a Lisa Loeb fan, this album is a must. If you don't know much about her, you will, I think, be won over by this creative song writer and crafter of catchy melodies. In the end, I cannot stop playing the dang album!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Listen, 28 Dec. 2002
This review is from: Cake And Pie (Audio CD)
I didn't know that Lisa had been writing a follow up to her second album 'Firecracker', so on finding out I was relieved that she hadn't ceased recording.
I've gotta say, this album really is excellent. In comparison to her previous albums, it's less raw and more polished, production wise, but the style of her music remains the same. Acoustics is the name of the game, and though not all of the songs are standout, they all have a quality to them that warrents a second listen. So here it is, the review:
The way It Really Is
Extremely good opening track. Brilliant string arrangement and strong melody.
Bring Me Up
Continues with the high standard set by the first track.
Underdog
One of the standout tracks, with a brilliant strings arrangement, simple but effective melodies, and typical Lisa lyrics. Should definitely be released as a single.
Everyday
One of the more brooding songs on the album.
Someone You Should Know
Current single from the female rocker. Strong and catchy chorus, with many a good guitar riff.
Drops Me Down
The gentle side of Lisa shows in this ballad. Gentle acoustic guitar is the name of the game here. A nice album filler.
We Could Still Belong Together
A brilliant Rock/Pop stomper, with the qualities of an excellent single. Should definitely be released.
Kick Start
Another gentle ballad, which she sings with great emotion. An excellent song, with intricate acoustics.
You Don't Know Me
Light-hearted pop tune which is cool to just sing along to.
Payback
Mid tempo number with a distinct rock chick feel to it. Another good album filler.
Too Fast Driving
The weakest track on the album. A little scanty melody wise, but good enough to be an album filler.
She's Falling Apart
A distinctly minor sounding song, which is executed well. A good, reflective closing track to an excellent album.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lacking something..., 21 Oct. 2004

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Cake And Pie (Audio CD)
It's a good album, don't get me wrong, but it's definitely lacking something. The first and last tracks are without a doubt the best on the album, but it just appears to sag slightly in the middle. This is the first Lisa Loeb album I have bought, and I bought it on the stregnth of 'Way it really is', so I might give her another go, but it has to be stronger than this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, 10 Jan. 2005

Easily the best of her Albums to date. Lots of very catchy tracks, with lyrics that will be stuck in you head for days, for all the right reasons.
To be honest I love Lisa for all her wonderfully quirky lyrics and soulful mellodies. This album brings everything together nicely and adds a few surprises only the way.
