D. M. Kitchen (Hull, UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Or (Audio CD)
I first heard of Golden Boy through fashion magazines as part of the 'electroclash' movement and the release of the single 'Rippin Kittin'. Together with Miss Kittin, he has produced an album full of excellently structured songs and melodies.
Miss Kittin's usual deadpan, monotone commontaries on her previous work with Felix Da Housecat and The Hacker, are softened and she sends tracks like 'Autopilot' and the fun 'After 8' into moments of pure joy. Overall this is a warm, fun album which will get you tapping your foot and whistling along... and most importantly, making you feel glad you invested in a great modern dance album.
My favourite tracks are 'Rippin Kittin', the darker track about Miss Kittin's murderous tendancies (the version included here is not the single verion, which has a lush chorus), and '1234' a great track with a lovely Euro-fun melody, and Miss Kittin rambling on about not knowing what to say and a subtle knowing wink to her known lyrics about celebrity and parties.
This import features a short and sweet intro by Miss Kittin, and features better artwork (in my opinion) than the ordinary UK release.
