4.0 out of 5 stars Fun, while it lasts
Having played the original podracer game on N64 and had many fun hours doing so, I thought id give this a go. 3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as the older PC version
Racer Revenge is a good game but has a low rating because the older PC version was a lot better, this isnt too unexpected as the ps2 naturally isnt as strong as a pc but its still fun flying around in a pod racer and a good time waster.

This game is nothing like the rubbish Star Wars Racer, this is faster and more exciting. More Tracks, more characters and better graphics, this is fantastic!

Classic game! I've had the game for years but my old playstation spazzed out and wrecked the disc so I had to replace it, works great and I'd recommend the game to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Two rivals return for the intergalactic race of the year, 13 Mar. 2002

This review is from: Star Wars: Racer Revenge (Video Game)
Sebulba is back! It's been 8 years since the most dangerous Dug of the podracing circuit was last seen, after his legendary defeat at the hands of Anakin Skywalker. Now the two rivals return to face oneanother, and Sebulba has one thing on his mind: revenge.
With new and interesting vista's, players of the game are treated to a variety of familiar and new characters to race as, which makes every race an energy-binding experience!

2.0 out of 5 stars Another poor Star Wars game, 19 Jun. 2004
This review is from: Star Wars: Racer Revenge (Video Game)
Having played the original Racer game on the old Nintendo 64 (which I really enjoyed), I did not pick this one up for a long time fearing that it was just a port over to the PS2. However, it is a different game altogether. The action is supposed to take place 8 years after The Phantom Menace so Anakin is now a young adult, but he still has the same pod racer. All of the other characters from the Pod Racing section of the film are included, even though you have to win tournament races to access them. Making it a different game though has not made it a better one. It does feel like a bit of a throw back to older machines and did look dated even when it was originally released.
There does not seem to be much of a sustained challenge. I did not expect to win races at the first attempt as the computer races do not seem to be very competent. They only seem to overtake you if you crash but it does not take much effort to overtake them. The only challenge seems to be the opening up of hidden characters and tracks. Unless you like that sort of thing, there is not a good deal in it for you.
The game play itself is basic, but this is not a complaint. It does make a change to be able to pick up a game and not have to learn a couple of thousand button combinations to complete it. There are a couple of other things going for this game. The graphics are pretty good and you do get a real sense of speed, especially when you use the booster. The sense of speed does have problems though as the track can throw up some surprises that means you do end crashing into a wall that not even someone with the reactions of Superman would be able to avoid.
I did struggle to find these positives. Once again, Star Wars games flatter to deceive. It is a shame since those halcyon days of X-Wing and Tie Fighter that these tied in games follow trends instead of setting them. Avoid, unless Star Wars is the be all and end of your life

1.0 out of 5 stars Absolute waste of money., 24 Mar. 2002
This review is from: Star Wars: Racer Revenge (Video Game)
I enjoyed the original racer on PC, sure it was too easy and you hardly saw the other racers but it was fun to test your reflexes against the incredible speed of the track.
Somehow, lucasarts have created a game that has worse graphics and worse gameplay than the original. The course design is so bad that it is often impossible to see where the track goes so you find yourself heading in the wrong direction or colliding with walls that appear a nanosecond before you hit them.
Check out Wipeout 3, that is a visual feast, this makes the PS2 look like an N64.
Finally the worst, most annoying thing is that the commentator is painful to listen to. You will cringe when he says "boy that's gotta hurt" in a cheesy american accent for the 50th time.
Do yourself a favour, spend your ... on MGS2, SSX tricky, GTA3 or any other game because this is pure...
