5.0 out of 5 stars Top dog series, 25 Aug. 2002
The third series of Bad Girls sees a shift in format to more self-contained episodes with much snappier narrative development. The downside to this is some poor continuity and a sometimes uncommitted treatment of the characters; the upside is that it affords a fast-moving style and high turnover of 'guest' villains and prisoners, most notably Kate O'Mara's camp turn as Virginia O'Kane (if you can excuse the appaling treatment of the disability in prisons issue). Highlights include the excellent opening episode, the Boot Gang riot and the arrival of Charlotte Middleton. Linda Henry is fantastic as top dog Yvonne, and the series sags somewhere in the middle when she's absent for three episodes, but special mention is also due for Debra Stephenson and Simone Lahbib who continue to put in excellent performances. A style not to every fan's taste, but definitely an exciting and pacy series.

4.0 out of 5 stars BAD GIRLS 3, 17 July 2004
By
V (Staffordshire) - See all my reviews
In this the third series of Bad Girls, things hot up even more for the inmates and officers of G Wing at HMP Larkhall. Former Wing Governor Helen Stewart is now the Head of the Lifer's Unit, giving her closer access to her intimate inmate, Nikki Wade. However in the first episode, Helen's new role is put to the test when declining top dog, Shell Dockley holds a wounded Jim Fenner to ransom in her cell. New Wing Governor Karen Betts is determined to get her lover Jim Fenner out before it is too late, however Stewart is determined to do the good deed and help a frightened Dockley too. In this series, the inmates and officers alike face more murder, new faces and of course more drugs, topped with riots! Prison Governor Simon Stubberfield is forced out when ex-troublemaker Shell Dockley escapes to Spain with Denny Blood. As gangland leader, Yvonne Atkins sees off her old man, she establishes herself as top dog, even more so when her authority is challenged by the arrival of the Peckham Boot Gang, headed by Maxi Pervis, keen to take the top dog status away from Atkins. Fenner is more than pleased to assist! As Helen Stewart takes over command of the entire prison (much to the dismay of Fenner), she sets out to join forces with Atkins to reak revenge on Fenner after his assault on her. As usual the situation spirals out of control and by the end of the series, Fenner is left reigning supreme, with Stewart resigned and Atkins fitted up for murder. Now Fenner and Maxi Pervis can take control, or so it seems. Much more gripping than any previous series, and so much more unrealistic!

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Bad Girls: Series 3 [DVD] [1999] (DVD)
Separated from their homes, children and lovers, the female inmates of HMP Larkhalls continue to struggle with the harsh reality of life in this hidden world. Bad Girls Series 3 doesn't shy away from the cruelties and tense relationships inside the prison, but also captures the warmth and humour the women need to survive the system. This series is one of the best yet. With funny inmates like Shaz,Denny and Shell Dockley you'll never stop watching it.
It has all 16 eps across 5 discs and Exclusive audio CD of the Bad Girls theme and music from the show. Interactive tour of HMP Larkhall, including cast and crew interviews. Character biographies. Out-takes. Photo galleries which you dont get on the VHS!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Brilliant!!!!, 21 July 2006

This review is from: Bad Girls: Series 3 [DVD] [1999] (DVD)
From Season 1 I was so hooked I had to rush and order Seasons 2 & 3. Here in the States (at least where I am) we don't get Bad Girls, so I only discovered it when it was recommended to me by Amazon. Thanks Amazon as I can't get enough now!

The writing is top notch and the acting is just brilliant! Definitely full of surprises and raw emotion. Alliances are formed, new characters enter and the depth just keeps growing.

Without spilling any spoilers all I will say is that you will want to watch some scenes again and again, especially those in the last ep, "Coming Out."

And if you are in the States like me and have never heard of this show, TRUST ME and just pick up Seasons 1 - 3 and sit back and enjoy the ride!

This is a must have for any lesbian/gay collection or anyone who just enjoys well-written dialogue!

Treat yourself and add this to your collection!

5.0 out of 5 stars Another year at Larkhall, 18 Jun. 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Bad Girls: Series 3 [DVD] [1999] (DVD)
Many viewers were left with a real cliffhanger at the end of season two, with so many cliffhangers. Will Shell get Fenner? Will Helen turn Nikki in? And what's the deal with Di?
The third series answers all of these questions, and some moments are pure Bad Girls, as the show makes us laugh, gawp and cry. There are lots of new characters introduced, including Buki, Gina, Mark and Virginia, but the most important arrival happens halfway through the series. The Peckham Boot Gang. For those who haven't seen Series Four, I wont spoil it, but the vicious Maxi finally gets whats coming to her.
All I can say is buy this set, cos it's great, and wait for Series Four as well. The finale definately goes off with a bang!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bad Girls Series 3, 27 Dec. 2005
This review is from: Bad Girls: Series 3 [DVD] [1999] (DVD)
Series 1 and 2 of this ITV drama were fantastic. So many great characters for you to see, from Nikki Wade to Jim Fenner.
This series is different to the previous series of this drama but in a good way. More tears, more romance and more new prisoner join the show. This show series the appearance of the Peckham Boot Gang - Tina and Maxi pervis along with their mate Al McKenzie.
I have every single series on dvd except for series 6 and I can honestly say this series is well worth watching.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sex, drugs and corruuption- all in a day's work at Larkhall, 9 Aug. 2006
This review is from: Bad Girls: Series 3 [DVD] [1999] (DVD)
Bad girls is still high-charged, dramatic and thoroughly entertaining, and long term viewers will reap the rewards of series 3. The relationship between Fenner and Shell Dockley turned violent in series 2, and in the first episode of series 3, reaches a brutal climax. Of course it isn't long before both are back on their feet, and Shell (with Fenner's assistance) flees Larkhall with Denny Blood and Shaz Wiley. The group (minus Shaz who has an accident) show up at bodybag's house, hellbent on bloody revenge before escaping to the sunny costa del sol. This series also sees the arrival of the vicious Peckham boot gang, consisting of 3 people, ringleader Maxi Purvis, her dim-witted sister Tina and hard girl Al McKenzie. Alas, Helen Stewart is found to be having a relationship with Nikki Wade, and must leave Larkhall for good. But, Nikki appeals for release, hoping to be reunited with her lover-will she succeed? buy the dvd and find out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent and exciting, 28 May 2001
By A Customer
This is undoubtedly the best series so far, it is cleverly written with humour and is quite marvellous in putting important issues across in interesting but also deep ways. Together they work splendidly in an excellent series with brilliant actors, I make a special mention to Simone Lahbib (Helen Stewart) and Debra Stephenson (Shell Dockley), who both shine as a couple of our most fine tv actresses at the moment. In other words, buy it now!

5.0 out of 5 stars Once again OUTSTANDING, 26 Mar. 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Bad Girls: Series 3 [DVD] [1999] (DVD)
After such a successful first and second series this series could only get better and it did. Series Two left all avid fans on tender hooks, and gagging for series three to be released. It lived up to and beyond the expectations it has initiated. The story line swiftly continues, with Jim Fenner corrupt as ever, BodyBag as blunt and irritating than before and the return of Denny proves to create a stir within Larkhall. There are no words comprehendible to describe the thrill this series gives. Weel worth the investemnt!!!

With the cliffhanger left at the end of Series 2 we all waited desperately for Series 3...and it didn't disappoint!! With this DVD boxset you can watch the episodes until your heart's content and never tire of them...the quality is just amazing!! The extras are once again brilliant, but I would have liked a repeat of the deleted scenes as on previous boxsets! Neverless, a great buy for a true Bad Girls fan!!
