This review is from: Murder Rooms - The Patients Eyes - The Inspiration behind Sherlock Holmes [DVD] [2001] (DVD)
This episode forms the first of the short run of "Murder Rooms", following from the pilot episode. The entire episode has the feeling of an Atkinson Grimshaw painting, with superb locations and production giving it a sumputous Victorian feel. Little snippets of dialogue from the Sherlock Holmes books are cleverly placed here and there in the dialogue, presumably to suggest Conan Doyle based his books on the events covered here. The plot twists and turns with a suitably surprising twist at the end. Very enjoyable and very well made. My one gripe is that this DVD presents it in 4:3, when it was clearly made in 16:9 - in a few scenes the edges are cut off.

This was a well loved and popular series that ended too quickly.
Ian Richardson is superb as Joseph Bell the inspiration for Sherlock Holmes.
It is all very atmospheric and a bit creepy at times, the whole series is worth a look.
