3.0 out of 5 stars An everyday tale of ordinary folk..., 22 Feb 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: The Hefner Brain (Audio CD)
More smalltown tales of life, love and heartache from Hefner.Including four new tracks this value for money single leads with a version of When The Angels Play Their Drum Machine taken from last year's Dead Media album.
Hefner's Essex boy Darren Hayman once rivalled Jarvis for wry and everyday observations. When The Angels... tells of a dirty weekend away with Hayman singing:
"Please draw the curtains, unplug the phone.Let's mess the sheets up and give our hearts a home..."
The detached delivery and simple synthesised sound is disappointing.Hefner must try harder than this or newcomers like Cinerama will move into their offbeat pop niche.
