Yes - I agree with the other reviewers; this Box sets a new baseline in terms of performance quality, recording standards and Notre - Dame perfectly in tune as I have NEVER heard before. Oddly makes the old - (ish) Jennifer Bate set look peculiarly quaint and antique, playing wise and sonically. This is a quantam leap ahead and even beats Gillian Weir's rather matter-of-fact set.

I was recommended this set by one of the world's leading authorities on Messiaen whose own recordings are considered (and are) 'benchmark'. That is surely the strongest recommendation! So...
I bought this as a present to myself (and with just reason) as a memory of something extra special. It is truly wonderful to hear all those glorious sounds and colours, the power and glory of this great music in such resplendent sound and recording. However good other recordings may be, this is superlative in all respects.
Composers, organists, Messiaen fans, whoever, just go and treat yourselves!

Messiaen's world is full of colour and beauty, and takes us to the heart of our spiritual existence. It is impossible to listen to this music without feeling awe at the possibility of God's presence, even if one cannot go further. It makes you feel as if anything is possible, it gives joy and hope ... it also has a playful, childlike quality, like playing with plasticine for adults. I don't mean this facetiously at all! The organ at Notre Dame has a sound of such majesty and depth one is amazed; exactly the kind of beauty the music requires for its radiance to be fully felt. Olivier Latry plays splendidly, it seems to me, capturing all the variety of the works and entirely putting himself at the service of the music. I wouldn't want to live without these discs.

A beautifully presented box set. Informative notes are written by Latry and Paul Griffiths with a inspirational foreward by J.Revert. Of course we buy CD's for the music..The performances and interpretation are truly amazing as you might expect from Latry. Technically both the playing and recorded sound is awesome!
Perfect for late night listening...Messiaen's music is divine!
This (possibly coupled with Messiaen own Mono recording)..is the one to buy! You won't be disappointed.

This music seems to me to express so much of the mystery, gravity, lightness, spirituality and humanity/divinity of religious faith. And much of the struggle and questioning too. It is so, so beautiful.
And these performances and recordings from Notre Dame are extraordinary.
A box of six CDs that I have already placed on my desert island list and know will inform the rest of my earthly existence.
If there are six CDs of spiritual/religious music you are going to buy in the next six years let this be them.

If you are after a recording of the complete Messiaen oeuvre, then look no further.
This is THE boxset to have.
What we have here, is a top notch virtuoso, a powerful organ, and a composer of divine colour and majesty. Put all three together, and the result is electrifying!
From the heavenly and ethereal "le Banquet Celeste" to the dramatic "Combat de la mort et de la vie" - the listener experiences every possible human emotion.
Latry delivers a sensitive, yet might interpretation, and his mastery of the Notre Dame organ makes for a dazzling performance.
The boxset contains six CDs, accompanied by a booklet with detailed analysis of each individual work, and information about the Notre Dame organ, complete with stop list.
