This review is from: Close Enough For Rock 'n' Roll (Audio CD)
Nazareth's 6th studio release was a little different from what came before. You still have the same quality music and amazing vocals courtesy of Dan McCafferty, but everything seem a little more studio produced rather than sounding raw and live like the albums Hair Of The Dog or Razamanaz. This is certainly not a bad thing and the music on offer still sounds superior to a lot of similar offerings, but fans of a more 'live' sound will not like it quite as much.
The disc opens with Telegram (a song split into 4 parts, each with it's own sub-title). This track was the live opener for Nazareth concerts for years to come. From the raucous opening track you progress onto a beautiful guitar-led instrumental and then on to a song about being homesick. Nazareth are relentless tourers so you can guess where the insparation for that song came from. The songs after that are a mixture of fast paced rockers and sing-a-long melodic rock.
This album is not as heavy as Hair Of The Dog or as A.O.R as Sound Elixr, but nestles quite nicely in between the two. If you don't like your music as heavy as AC/DC but like a bit more oomph than Status Quo, then this album is for you.
