I am an avid Sharon Stone fan and for me this is one of her great performances. She plays a convicted murderer on death row whose latest clemency appeal has been denied.
Rob Morrow plays the young appeals officer who on examining her file discovers that she was badly defended at her trial and sets out to attempt to stay her execution.
The acting in, and directing of this fast moving drama is excellent. The relationship that developes between the doomed Cindy Ligget (Stone) and Rick Hayes (Morrow) is electrifying and as the story comes to a close one cannot but be moved by the bond that has developed between the two.
The murder scenes are quite grafic, however not overdone, so one is in no doubt about the horrendous murder that was commited 12 years prior.
The supporting cast were equally well chosen, so overall this is another good movie for lovers of murder most foul and detective work, that slipped by almost unnoticed by the critics.
The DVD copy I received is excellent. A pity no special features. I would really have liked a little background on the movie. However it still ranks up in my top 20 drama movies to see again, and again, and again.

For some reason Sharon Stone is not recognised as an actress of quality I do not know why that is. In this film Sharon Stone is brilliant as is Rob Morrow. Jail is the strangest place to find love. Cindy Liggett, a woman convicted for a vicious and brutal double murder has waited twelve years to die. The world has never given her anything and she really just wants to get it over with. Then she meets new recruit attorney Rick Hayes (Rob Morrow) who is assingned to her case. Sharon Stone and Rob Morrow do not say anything to tell the audience that they have fallen in love, but it is there from their first meeting. If that is not great acting, I do not know what is. The film has a great supporting cast who show each in their character the humanity and the deep hate that the act of murder creates. This is a wonderful story gently told, a story of love, friendship and bravery. In the battlefield of the world stage, they say goodbye with their eyes, quite quite amazing.

This film highlights the tortuous process of American justice whereby people on death row are kept in limbo for so long before the sentence is actually carried out. If capital punishment is indeed necessary, it should surely be swifter for the sake of the victims and the perpetrators of the crime. I felt that the film should have focussed on the anguish of the victim's family more than it did, because they are made to suffer a pain which never goes away, but apart from this was a fair observation of the flaws within the criminal justice system. Sharon Stone is excellent of course, how could she be anything else ?

The film subject is not everyone's favourite, and it isn't mine most of the time, but the cast are so convincing. There is a terrific performance from Sharon Stone.

Although ridiculed by critics as "Dead Woman Walking", I think that "Last Dance" with Sharon Stone as doomed Death Row inmate Cindy Liggett is nonetheless original enough to stand on its own merits!

Sharon Stone is Cindy Liggett, a woman convicted for double murder and after twelve years of waiting Cindy is prepared to die. As a last attempt to save her life, new recruit attorney Rick Hayes (Rob Morrow) is assingned to her case. In a race to save her life Rick and Cindy form a relationship which makes the distant Cindy realise what love is and maybe Rick is the reason to stay alive. A story of love, friendship and bravery. But how can you let go of someone you love? Sometimes, justice is a crime.
