This is a Hong Kong police drama with a difference, this time the fallen angels, the bad-boys and rulers of the underworld are the cops themselves.
Unlike normal action movies, this get's under your skin for another reasin, the cops are all too human, they drink, take drugs and sleep around with prostitutes.
What starts off as a typical setting of Good Cop/Bad cop is turned on it's head, as we the audience soon realise there is no such thing as good and evil in the the underworld of crime; only those willing to follow the rules and those who break them all the time.
Excellent I cannot recommend this enough for anyone who likes intellegence with their chopsocky.
The actual DVD features an interview with the director and two of the actors, nothing really improtant but always nice to have.

When a triad leader orders an execution, he needs to leave town quick. This coincides with the arrival of a straight laced cop new to the area, suddenly getting more than he bargained for with his latest secondment! His partner lost his way years ago with gangsters and is as crooked as they come, and his new girlfriend is the ex~squeeze of the runaway triad leader and madam at a fancy brothel. With an inevitable feeding frenzy of gangster upstarts and new and old scores to be settled something nasty is about to spatter the fan...
Brilliant, really enjoyed this. It's a really good blurring of morality, with solid action and likeable characters. Smart, bloodthirsty and funny in equal measure. Had this sat on my shelf for 9yrs before I first got round to it! Still can't believe it took me so long. Anthony Wong (Bunman, Ebola Syndrome, Hard Boiled etc) gives a superb performance as the bent cop being forced to reassess his actions and begin a long walk down the road to redemption by his new boss. Think Keitel in Bad Lieutenant but with loads more action and machete violence! If my memory is holding up, this won Best Film, Actor (Wong), Screenplay and Director at the 1998 Hong Kong film awards and that pedigree should speak for itself! Recommended.
The dvd quality is perfectly fine on the digitally restored and remastered special edition (Hong Kong Legends) and there's a commentary and several interviews, which are the pick of the extras.
