5.0 out of 5 stars Versatile semi-pro camcorder
I've had this camcorder for about a month now and have already been very impressed with its performance. It has 3 1/3 inch image sensing chips compared to the 2/3 or even 1 inch chips seen in the £20,000 pro DV news camcorders .Obviousley the image won't be as good but its a big improvmant over a handy cam bearing in mind like any high end kit its only as good as the...

I've had this camcorder for about a month now and have already been very impressed with its performance. It has 3 1/3 inch image sensing chips compared to the 2/3 or even 1 inch chips seen in the £20,000 pro DV news camcorders .Obviousley the image won't be as good but its a big improvmant over a handy cam bearing in mind like any high end kit its only as good as the person opperating it!
I purchased it after looking at other makes with similar spec but because I wanted it for shooting model car racing on large circuits the interchangeable lense opption suited me best.
To sum up it will fit SLR lenses from Nikon and Canon, with suitable adaptor, broadcast lenses from Canon ,Fuji,Sony etc and it has opptional Canon lenses one manual ,one wide angle that fit straight to the cam without needing an adaptor plate. It can also fit 35 mm cinema lenses with the mini 35 adaptor.
The cam has been used in several budget movies soon appearing in the cinema!
Canon also do 2 opptional shoulder pads with xlr mic sockets and component video sockets for top quality video transfer.
The cam has a very robust and compact magnesium body, ideal for filming in tough environments. There's plenty of manual setting available such as white balance settings and provision for adding extra sound using audio in on the extra chanels.Any body spending this ammount will be looking to create their own set-ups for seriouse filming anyway.
To summarise ,a great looking robust cam for the seriouse film maker and the only camcorder at this price range to offer interchangeable lenses.

5.0 out of 5 stars Canon, 29 Dec 2003

Having previously used smaller commercial cameras the jump in quality was immense, with control over aperture and shutter speed and frame totally transformed my footage. Purchaed the K6 microphone as the inbuilt Canon mic is a bit ropey. One of the best purchases I have made

I've been co-ordinating a project where schoolkids come and produce their own movies. The big advantage that this camera has over handycams is its white balance and sound level adjustors. With all the background noise and low light levels, you need a little boost sometimes. I'd still recommend investing in some external mics though, the camera's mic can only do so much.
Looks good and is good.

I bought this mini DV camcorder for a friend who had been lusting after it for some time. ( Of course he paid me for it !!! ).
It was in VG condition, and he's got himself a very good semi pro bit of kit !.
