5.0 out of 5 stars (Another) highlight of the career....
In fact, when you think about it, this probably IS the the best album of the Charlatans' carreer. From the outset of 'You're So Pretty', you know that this is a change of direction for the Charlatans. But one that is vital.
Like some music hack said recently, the Charlatans have joined Primal Scream in being an old band band but also compulsive and fresh at the same...

2.0 out of 5 stars Mediocre and shallow
This is an album that sums up the problems of most modern guitar music. The whole sound of the album smacks of a band that are trying so hard to be as cool as their influences and failing. 2.0 out of 5 stars I'd agree with the Amazon reviewer, 15 Jan 2003

This review is from: Wonderland (Audio CD)
It can't be easy when a band's been around for 10 years or more, to get a real gague on teh quality of an album. The mainstream fans are gone, only the diehards remain. If the album is a new style, they may not like it, if it retreads old styles, they'll be content.
Basically, this is a poor atempt at merging elements form the past. The mroe lightweight pyschadelic aspect of the early hits is gone,r eplaced by some Bob Dylan influences and vocal falsetto (a style he fails to pull off). There isn't enough variation, and most of the songs fail to reach a real melody. I'd say this is the worst effort since Up To Our Hips, and well short of Us & Us Only's magic.
