4.0 out of 5 stars A great DVD to get started with anime
This DVD is a very good buy. The story is quite simple compared to other noteable anime like akira or ghost in the shell, but this does not subtract from the film.
The dubbings dont match but its very hard to make japanese dubs because they don't use the same syntax as us. The english voices arn't great but they are ok for a dub. I recommend listening to the japanese...

3.0 out of 5 stars dubbing disaster spoils this cyberpunk classic
The DVD could have done with a bit more effort in some areas-
My biggest criticism is with the dubbing: if you the English dubbing doesn't match the English subtitles!
Also the English voiceovers are not as good as the original Japanese ones- everyone sounds the same and has annoying drawling accents- I've resorted to watching it in Japanese instead. The songs...

This review is from: Bubblegum Crisis: Arc 1 - Mason [DVD] (DVD)
The DVD could have done with a bit more effort in some areas-
My biggest criticism is with the dubbing: if you the English dubbing doesn't match the English subtitles!
Also the English voiceovers are not as good as the original Japanese ones- everyone sounds the same and has annoying drawling accents- I've resorted to watching it in Japanese instead. The songs are better in Japanese too.
Additionally, you can't access the extras without a PC so dedicated DVD players are disadvantaged.
All these glitches are partially made up for by the original content itself- the original songs are good- (but you'll need to buy the album to hear the full versions.)
Buy only if you don't have the original video version.

I recommend listening to the japanese with english subtitles its much more interesting and the songs are better.
One other negative point is that it may be rated a PG but really there are depictive (if quite short) scenes of nudity, so this isn't really that suitable for younger children.
If your New to anime i really do recommend starting with this, afterwards a good step would be patlabour, then moving on to classics like Akira.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bubblegum Crisis - One of the Ultimate Classics of Anime, 3 Aug. 2012
This review is from: Bubblegum Crisis: Arc 1 - Mason [DVD] (DVD)
Bubblegum Crisis came out in 1987 with episode 1 and it was an immediate hit, spawning 7 more episodes from 1988 to 1991. Luckily MVM, the UK distributor released all 8 episodes on DVD. This first volume has the first 3 episodes. This show is a must see, the stories are dark, broody and eclectic, with the year set in 2032. The series is also noteable for it's detailed animation and amazing rock songs, which perfectly showcase the exciting, cyber punk atmospehre, ambience and tone. These early episodes are incredible, particularly episode 2, which is a personal favourite of mine.

Rating - A+
