5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic
The directors have done a superb job. Making Sandra Bullock very believable as a sloppy woman not taking care of herself. Some good comedy and a 'nice' story. A general all round, this film won't have you guessing the plot, but it does invoke that feel good factor.
If you haven't seen it, buy it. If you've seen it, you'll already know if it's for you or not.

3.0 out of 5 stars A fun little flick.
Sandra Bullock always looks like she is having lots of fun making her films and this is no exception. "Plain" FBI agent turned undercover beauty queen storyline - easy to follow. There are not many laugh out loud moments, but it is good fun to watch. Michael Cain and William Shatner do good supporting roles and there are some excellent performances form some of the...

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, 16 April 2005

This is such a funny and charming film- THANK YOU SANDRA BULLOCK for being able to make fun of yourself unlike so many other beautiful Hollywood actresses who take themselves so seriously. Gracie Hart is a charming "Dirty Harriet" FBI agent sent on an undercover mission in a beauty pageant. Bullock combines physical comedy with sarcasm and it's not hard to have a smile screwed on your face throughout the movie- not only does Bullock shine as bright as a beauty queen's teeth but the supporting cast are fabulous, especially Shatner and Burns. Nevertheless, it is Michael Caine and Sandra Bullock's rapport which is really great- yes the one-liners are hilarious. The DVD extras are really cool- Bullock is great because she actually likes doing the commentary so it's not boring. Anyway I really love this film and highly recommend it to anyone- Sandra Bullock really is beautiful and Benjamin Bratt is pretty hansome too. Enjoy :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Comedy, satire, and surprising insight, 4 Sep 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Miss Congeniality [VHS] [2001] (VHS Tape)
Anyone who has ever lived in the South, or watched "the" American beauty pageant over the decades, will be delighted to see all its sugary ambition and role-playing exposed--and surprised perhaps at the ultimate gentleness of the satire, for the women come to be regarded as individuals and as such are not ridiculed. The supporting cast of intensely committed beauty contestants, both silly and sincere, and those who manipulate them, are well chosen. Michael Caine's efforts and success in grooming the Sandra Bullock character put this film in the genre of Pygmalion, My Fair Lady, Pretty Woman, etc. It is of course Sandra Bullock's comic acting, which just gets better as the years go by, that makes this film worth seeing more than once. Highly entertaining, and highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funniest film ever..., 9 April 2005
By A Customer
Woah this is a great film. Having recently gone to the cinema to see Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous, I decided to buy the DVD to remind me of the first one. Miss Congeniality 1 is by far the best DVD I've bought. It definitely cheers you up and makes you laugh your socks off, and some of the catchphrases and sentences Bullock makes do make me laugh a lot. She is far more believable as a model than an FBI agent.
It also stars Michael Caine- her slightly camp, "very secure" makeup artist person. One scene when they're on a plane watching a video of the Miss United States pageant from a few years back, and Bullock makes a funny impression of the winner, something like "If i only had a brain" doing the hand-shaking-cool thing, is extremely funny. There's loads more of quotes aswell, but you get the picture; it's funny. Miss Congeniality 2 is also equally great, so go see it while it's in cinemas or buy it on DVD from Amazon when it comes out! One of the best comedy franchises ever.

4.0 out of 5 stars A consistently witty and entertaining movie, 10 Aug 2006
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This film makes for good viewing because there are so many interesting characters in it and so many different things happening from the start to the finish. It wasn't so much a laugh out loud movie but more a consistently witty movie that succeeded in making the characters seem believable even though they,at times, existed in quite unbelievable circumstances.

Michael Caine struggled to civilise Sandra Bullock on screen and if you watch the special features section of the dvd you'll see he struggled to civilise her on the set of Miss Congeniality too!The whole dvd is worth watching.

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent comedy, 13 April 2006
By
Greg Farefield-Rose (Hertfordshire United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
Comedy starring Sandra Bullock as Gracie Hart, a tough girl cop who is obsessed with her job, doesn't have time for relationships and despises anything girly. After bungling a police operation, Gracie is consigned to go undercover as Miss New Jersey in the Miss USA beauty contest, resulting in hilarious elocution and posture lessons from an etiquette coach, excellently played by Michael Caine. As she just about convincingly gets through the extensive eliminating rounds, the cynical Gracie gets to know some of the other girls and is gradually transformed in her outlook to femininity and love. Inevitably she spots the saboteur, saves the day and ends the film as a more understanding heroine.

Miss Congeniality is an excellent, frequently hilarious comedy with a fine central performance by Bullock. Well worth seeing.

This is great! If you are ever feeling down then this will make you feel both beautiful and funny.
The story may be pretty pradictably but if it wasn't then it you wouldn't be able to watch this film when you are too tired to do anything else.
This isn't the film for anyone really into secret service films, but for most people it is a great evening filler, thow probably not for film critics who would pick up on the cheesy ending!
I personaly find that i can watch this film over and over again, which i can't do with others.
If you are looking for a video to watch while winding down then this one is perfect because it not only makes you laugh but has enough action in it to keep you from falling asleep and waking up right at the end!

4.0 out of 5 stars Miss Congeniality, 20 Nov 2005
By
Rich Milligan (Thatcham, Berkshire) - See all my reviews
Sandra Bullock is one of those film stars where no matter how weak the plot, how contrived the storyline, how corny the screenplay the viewer is always given that little bit extra to draw you in and enjoy every scene with her lovely enchanting acting.
Gracie Hart is an FBI agent, and for her the idea of the “weaker sex” doesn’t exist as she growls and curses her way through her everyday work. Perhaps it’s competition with the boys or perhaps she’s just a tomboy, but basically anything the men get up to, there’s Gracie not far behind, kicking butt with the best of them.
FBI intelligence has obtained information that a crazed bomber has decided to target this years Miss American pageant and Gracie’s squad are detailed to get someone on the inside to determine who the perpetrator might be. Seriously lacking any potential beauty queens, Gracie’s boss picks her to become Miss New Jersey and enter the pageant. Gracie is shocked to her core, not only hasn’t she worn a dress for decades but she doesn’t know the first thing about make up and thinks that “playing wine glasses” is a special talent.
As I say the plot idea is extremely thin and it’s only the charming performance of Bullock that gets the viewer through. She’s ably assisted by the wonderful Michael Caine who pops up in the great role of Victor Melling, the man that must transform Gracie into a beauty queen and William Shatner makes good work of his role as Stan Fields the master of ceremonies. It’s great to see these two old actors hamming their parts up for all they are worse. I’ll also mention the cute and appealing Heather Burns who as Miss Rhode Island personifies every cliché of the pageant scene and yet still makes a lovely character.
It’s not a classic comedy by any stretch of the imagination, but it’s still immensely delightful and immensely watchable.
