5.0 out of 5 stars A sublime slice of boxing history
I'm delighted that this superb compilation of boxing's most exciting era has made it to dvd. The 1980s bore witness to arguably the most talent-rich, competitive middleweight division in living memory. You had the seemingly unstoppable bulldog Marvin Hagler, the olympic gold medal stylist & pin-up boy Sugar Ray Leonard, the lanky but explosive Thomas 'The Hitman' Hearns...

3.0 out of 5 stars Poor quality documentary, but great fights
This era of boxing has always been my favourite. After the great heavyweights of the 60's and 70s, such as Ali, Frazier, Norton, Forman etc, were winding down their careers, the focus of boxing came to the lower divisions (middleweight and welterweight). 5.0 out of 5 stars A sublime slice of boxing history, 13 Jun 2005

This review is from: Fabulous Four - Featuring Hagler, Hearns, Leonard & Duran [1990] [DVD] (DVD)
I'm delighted that this superb compilation of boxing's most exciting era has made it to dvd. The 1980s bore witness to arguably the most talent-rich, competitive middleweight division in living memory. You had the seemingly unstoppable bulldog Marvin Hagler, the olympic gold medal stylist & pin-up boy Sugar Ray Leonard, the lanky but explosive Thomas 'The Hitman' Hearns and the durable streetfighter Roberto 'Hands of stone' Duran.
This dvd features lengthy highlights from the most important & exciting fights between these four legends including Hearns-Leonard 1 & 2, Leonard-Hagler, Hagler-Duran & Hearns-Duran, not to mention all three rounds from Hagler-Hearns. This last fight was an out and out war that people still talk about to this day, it really must be seen to be believed.
If you love boxing then you simply must add this dvd to your collection. You won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous 4... 80s boxing heaven, 10 Aug 2002

This review is from: Fabulous Four - Featuring Hagler, Hearns, Leonard & Duran [1990] [DVD] (DVD)
This excellent collection of boxing follows the historic duels between 4 of the best of all time, Hagler, Hearns, Leonard & Duran. This was a golden age of middleweight boxing and the DVD does it credit, showcasing all of the best action from the fights. If you love boxing you'll love this, even if you're too young to remember these fights. The highlight is round 1 of Hagler v Hearns, one of the best opening rounds in boxing history and if you like knockouts you'll be hard pressed to find a better finish than Hearns v Duran.
These warriors were made for each other, Hearn's raw power, Hagler's granite chin and strength, Leonard's sublime skill and Duran's sheer toughness. To watch these men do battle with each other is intruiging. You won't be dissapointed!

This review is from: Fabulous Four - Featuring Hagler, Hearns, Leonard & Duran [1990] [DVD] (DVD)
This era of boxing has always been my favourite. After the great heavyweights of the 60's and 70s, such as Ali, Frazier, Norton, Forman etc, were winding down their careers, the focus of boxing came to the lower divisions (middleweight and welterweight). Roberto Duran, Thomas 'the Hitman' Hearns, Sugar Ray Leonard and Marvelous Marvin Hagler were 4 great fighters in and around the same weight division. These great warriors fought each other over 3 different weight classes and set the boxing world alight and kept this sport in the mainstream.

However, the problem with this documentary is that it is cheaply produced. The fights are covered well but this film is a world away from the fantastic 'Champions Forever' DVD. What this documentary needs is a soul. It needs interviews and it needs a more indepth look at the fighters and their careers.

If your interesting in revisiting these classic contests, or if you were too young and you are just curious about this great era; then buy this DVD. Just dont be dissapointed at the cheap feel to the whole film.

5.0 out of 5 stars Your chance to see middleweight boxing at its best., 15 Jan 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Fabulous Four [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Watch four unique boxing legends battle one another in the middleweight division. the 60's and 70's were the decades of the heavyweights but the 80's has to go to the middleweight division. Watch some of the greatest fights in history on this brilliant round up of the amazing careers of these great boxers. My favorite fight on the video has to be Hagler Vs Hearns any fan of boxing would be amazed at that fight. Watch Sugar Ray Leonord do battle with Roberto Duran. What you have on this video is four all time great boxers who all have completley different styles competing aganst one another. this is your chance to see middleweight boxing at its best.

This only offers highlights of the bouts and little else.Having already owned copies of most of the fights this held little interest for me.I was hoping for more analysis by experts as to the merits of the fighters.
They also spend literally no time on the most interesting fight "no mas".

2.0 out of 5 stars Great fights, terrible coverage, 19 July 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Fabulous Four - Featuring Hagler, Hearns, Leonard & Duran [1990] [DVD] (DVD)
I found this DVD extremely disappointing. The fights themselves are classics, but I'm afraid the style of the commentary is very pompous and the editing of the fights is truly dreadful.
Oh yes, and just to add insult to injury, there's no footage whatsoever of the infamous "No mas" fight between Duran and Leonard... despite being one of the great talking points of boxing, this doesn't get covered because... errmm.. perhaps someone's management team decided it was too embarassing to show ? - either way, it's hardly a complete collection without it

4.0 out of 5 stars Great footage of Greatest ever fighters in some of the Greatest ever fights...., 30 Dec 2013

This review is from: Fabulous Four - Featuring Hagler, Hearns, Leonard & Duran [1990] [DVD] (DVD)
Some great footage from the 1980s of some of the greatest fighters of all time in their epic battles with each other. The early 1980s was a time when the welterweight and Middleweight divisions replaced the heavyweights as the most attractive and financially lucrative weight division in the sport. Each men really deserves a DVD of his own as they were all outstanding World Champions in their own right
