5.0 out of 5 stars Class all the way!!, 20 Oct 2012

I stumbled across Willie Mitchell by accident while I was buying another album, around 1964! Needless to say, I stuck with it and that begins a musical journey from then until today. The accidental album was 'Hold It' and a good job I did. It's a case of wondering 'how can he beat that?' and how! The following albums are the real class items, 'It's Dance Time' and 'That Driving Beat' complimented each other. They were made for Mods, everywhere.
In the clubs of the time, I heard Geoff Stringfellow play 'Doing The Stroll' at The Mojo (King and Beautiful incarnations), and not forgetting 'Sharam Bam Boo'. (For some obscure reason known only to Geoff, he couldn't say 'Ram Bunk Shus'.) Across town, at The Esquire, Barry Campbell and Willie played a wider selection. And so it goes on, through other 60's clubs, like The Pendulum (Rotherham). Go further out of town, like to Glossop (Crystal Club) and Manchester..... You'd hear Willie Mitchell everywhere. No DJ had Willie Mitchell's albums missing from their collection. He was THAT essential and an instant floor-filler!

An excellent double CD that gives a wide span of Willies work - although I would have had to include "Louie Louie" as well. With 51 tracks there are some that are less exciting. I prefer side One the Originals to Side Two the Covers. I guess "The Champion" "Mercy" and "Soul Serenade" are my faves as they sound as good now as they ever did. If you like Willie M this will give you hours of joy. Mike T
