Jimmy Grimble is a Mancunian teenage lad, a die-hard "City Boy" (i.e. Manchester City F.C. Supporter), small for his age, severely lacking confidence and the victim of school bullies.
But things change when he is given an old pair of football boots which he believes to be magic ...
The climax of the film is brillient but I won't spoil it for you.
There are several amuzing scenes including the sports teacher taking a crafty smoke in the boy's toilet and the goalkeeper conceding a goal through talking on his mobile.
They created a really OTT character Elvis - a 40 a day teenage footballing smoker. The shame is that he was only a central character in 3 scenes - stamping up and down on a lighter that wouldn't work, taking a crafty drag on his cig behind the teachers back after being told to put it out and sharing a spliff with a mate.
The shame is that this Elvis character could have been built up and provided other funny scenes e.g. walking off the field during a game for a quick drag.
An excellent film.
