5.0 out of 5 stars Another Built to Spill classic, 13 Sep 2001

This review is from: Ancient Melodies Of The Future (Audio CD)
I'm keeping this short, Buy all of BTS albums listen to them in chronological order and then give this three to four listens. This album contains 10 stunning tracks from the opener 'Strange' to final track 'The Weather'. 'You Are' is an instrumental and contains some beautiful, chilling slide guitar , 'Fly Around My Pretty Little Miss' has an extremely catchy chorus that will torment you for weeks. This album is a must for Built To Spill fans.

fantastic album, like all their other ones. Such a brilliant band, and consistently so over all the years. Not many bands are able to hold that consistency up

In my experience BTS albums need several listens to appreciate. Even though I have listened to their albums many times when a new one comes out it still needs to be played a lot to fully appreciate. 'Ancient Melodies of the Future' is a bit lighter than most of their albums and the songs shorter. Personally I would consider that a bad thing normally but it works. Somehow it reminds me of The Beatles. The melodies are effortless, the guitar playing intricate and delightful. Perhaps most importantly Doug Martsch's singing is very appealling and is unique. As with a lot of singers you may love him or hate him.
