A bit of a hot band at the time of writing, so I though I'd check them out. I'm not so sure about the "electronic" tag that's getting pinned on them. Sure, there are old synths groaning away in the background, but none of that is essential to the combination of beach-boy harmonies and English eccentricism that make up the majority of this album. There's also bits of Beatles in there somewhere (circa. Magical Mystery Tour). All in all, pretty enjoyable, with a few outstanding tracks.

I was as attracted to this CD as much by the weird sleeve as the reviews I read about it at the time of release. Shallow I know, but who doesn't judge a book by its cover as long as it is in the right genre?
Any way, this is a very fine record full of quirky, electronic/acoustic psychadelia. It's like Pet Sounds and The White Album stripped back to a pump organ, scratchy acoustic and bag load of off-beat bleeps.
There are some truly fine moments on here, with the harmonies particularly haunting. Pop songs like One Dimension display a real sense of fun and imagination. The chemistry was clearly right for this one... the follow up a bit of disappointment. Highly recommended.

this is a decent album, with sufficiently engaging tunes for even the most cynical. Obvious references to Beach Boys, Beatles aside the songs sound distinct enough to be unique. Worth repeated listenings. Oh, and better than 'Hot Shots 2' by some distance.

the simian promo eps are fantastic; four to six tracks of wierd b-side madness, and possibly simian at there best recorded state. the album misses out on some killer tracks such as reasons, the long road, turn around and others. Live, they were amazing and were certainly one of if not the best bands i've have seen. the album unfortunately does not 100% live up to this as it is a more mellow mix, and great tracks like the whisp, round and around, and one dimension are re-directed towards chilled out bed-sit listening sessions.
that said, it's absolutey fantastic and i love it to pieces. the fact that i've given four stars not five is in anticipation of their future works which i know will be even better, and that seeing them live i know what true excellence is.

stumbled across this concoction of melodicly, mesmorisingly tranquel yet energetic music on a friday evening whislt trying to escape the rain whilst waiting for a friend. A bit of a music novice, i was firstly drawn to the the graphic and how long it must of took to assemble ( its a design thing) anyway - stuck on the head phones only to have my ears tickled buy the most hypnotically familiar, yet astonishingly new, electro sounds. drawing you slowly, and so easily round to their kind of thinking only to have so acceptance baffled by the diffreing yet comaptible styles within a stlye of tracks within this great album, fairground like by the colourful twinkles that ensue from all around...........cant wait to hear them live!

Don't believe the hype surrounding this band. The first half of the album is very good, the second truly awful. For music like this buy the superior Hot Shots 2 by The Beta Band instead.
