5.0 out of 5 stars Britain's finest
Both this band and this album are outstanding! Both live and recorded they show the best that Britain has to offer, and it certainly holds its' own against the best the globe has to offer! 2.0 out of 5 stars some great musicians, but very heavy going
Wanted to hear what Robert Mitchell had to offer after hearing him on various Courtney Pine recordings. Mitchell is an outstanding pianist, but this is very hard to listen to. All tracks are very free and experimental and require a great deal from the listener. Schmool's soprano sax is a highlight, but this is not something that's likely to grow on me. Sorry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Britain's finest, 13 Jan 2004
This review is from: Voyager (Audio CD)
Both this band and this album are outstanding! Both live and recorded they show the best that Britain has to offer, and it certainly holds its' own against the best the globe has to offer! Robert Mitchell has awesome grace and subtlety as both a performer and writer - and as for the comment that it is too free and hardgoing for the listener, although there is first class improvisation in the solos the pieces themselves are well structured and defined, not rambling free efforts that fail to make sense. This work shows the skill of all those involved in world class music which defies the restrictions of an easy label. Enjoy - this really is the best of british!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Genius, 6 Jan 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Voyager (Audio CD)
This recording is an essential piece of modern jazz. In fact, it goes beyond jazz, and includes some of the most catchy grooves I've heard for a long time held together superbly by Nico Gomez and Mitchell. The compositions are complex but still retain stunning musicality and soul, especially from Eska Mtungwazi's performances. A quintissential record from a truly gifted man.

5.0 out of 5 stars A band you'll want to tell all your friends about, 14 April 2002
This review is from: Voyager (Audio CD)
Robert Mitchell has developed a technique which really deserves to be heard. Just when you thought a funk was getting stuck this fresh young band with an abundance of talent puts a new slant on modern jazz. Tasteful, understated punchy grooves underlie a set of infectious melodies and virtuosic solos. A group that you'll want to tell all your friends about.
