4.0 out of 5 stars The lost genius
THE treatment of Stuart Sutcliffe is good, very good, although the rest of the fledgling Beatles look terrible - particularly the George Harrison and Pete Best characters.
Overall, The Beatles are presented as a very loose set of relationships, John Lennon appears to hate everybody and while many biographies describe Lennon as a man with a twisted sense of humour,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Beatle Fan
This is a must for any true Beatles Fans plus it has a killer soundtrack too.The guy that plays Lennon has now played the role of John Lennon 3 times and he is an actual scouser in real life too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant,
Really enjoyed this film. A good insight to the Beatles at that time and can recommend this to anyone who likes the group. Made me look at the group in a different way more so John. excellent
5.0 out of 5 stars Twist and shout,
Worth buying for Ian Hart's portrayal of Lennon alone. It really captures the era, the late 50's/early 60's austerity, and the sheer vivacity of the band. Fantastic soundtrack, and the Paul MacCartney actor's resemblance is uncanny. Wonderful
4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable,
Worth watching but the Liverpool accents are dreadful. Paul McCartney later in the film especially sounds more like Irish which becomes very distracting especially for me who hears scouse accents regularly.
5.0 out of 5 stars Good early Beatle film,
This was a present for my daughter and she was very pleased with it indeed, the film essentially concentrating on Stu and Astrid's love affair plus all of the madness of the Hamburg era.
Well directed and well acted throughout this film will give a glimpse into those wonderful years before music hit the rocks and of the joys and sorrows of being part of it all.
4.0 out of 5 stars Good stuff.,
Having really enjoyed the stage show, I was prepared to be disappointed by the film, but this was not the case, the DVD was also really enjoyable.
5.0 out of 5 stars Backbeat rating,
I previously had this film on VHS which was recycled in error. Always rated this film . You could not have made up a greater story! See also Nowhere Boy.
5.0 out of 5 stars Backbeat DVD,
A brilliant movie and great acting. This film really captured the era & the actor who played John Lennon was so like him in every way. The seller sent this item quickly and we were really pleased with the service :)
5.0 out of 5 stars Great Film,
If you have not seen this movie and have an interest in music then you simply must watch this movie. Charting the Hamburg timeline of the Beatles rise to fame its a classic.
True story of the 5th Beatle who was a major influence on John Lennon.
3.0 out of 5 stars The Fractured Five,
Before the Fab Four there was the Fractured Five.
There is a brilliant film to be made about The Beatles times in Hamburg. This is not it but it does tell something of the story of that time, particularly the triangle of John Lennon, Stu Sutcliff and Astrid. Sutcliff's love for art and Astrid outwieght that for rock N roll and ultimatly even best friend Lennon. Beatles fans will not learn anything new but those who are only faintly aware that there was another member of the band might be interested to find out what happened to him and his sad end.
The film is atmospheric of the period and the three lead actors, who are not look-a-likes, are good. The other characters do not get much of a look-in. This film is ok for an evening when there is nothing on TV but it would be great if someone made a really brilliant film about the Beatles 'apprenticeship'. But I guess 'what happened in Hamburg stays in Hamburg'.
5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!,
Excellent, top notch! Very fast delivery, packaged well and film and sound quality good. A truly great film and lovely to watch it again after so many years.
