4.0 out of 5 stars NJ sound, 24 Feb 2002
This review is from: Out Of The Races And Onto The Tracks (Audio CD)
1974-76 NYC had its own sound thanks to Maxs, CGBG and Mercer. The Rapture have tried to re-style that sound, not in the way the strokes have, as they are more detroit garage. The singer could be tom verlaine in the making and the music is similiar to the voidoids.
The songs are catchy but this isnt the perfect album as some of the songs arent 100%. Doesnt mean that this still cant be a brilliant album. Its for somebody who liked the NYC sound that is now being rediscovered. Not a bad alternative to the strokes, but suprisingly less hype. Well thats commercialisation and having the right money from art school for you.
Give them a listen.
