4.0 out of 5 stars Deep, Hard and Funky, 15 Jun 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Alien Radio (Audio CD)
People have been getting excited about this for a long, long time. It's been five years since their last album, but Slam are finally back doing what they do best: making funky, clever, melodic techno. Alien Radio is more dancefloor-oriented than Headstates, not as hard as their Pressure Funk stuff, and more soulful than their occasional Freelance Science singles. Anyone who has seen their storming DJ sets will know what to expect. Sweepy synths, alien noises, and old fashioned analog drum machines combine with soulful vocals and hefty basslines to produce a sound that's both hard and deep, both melodic and funky. Like a lot of techno, it doesn't make the best home listening, but like the guys that made it, this album will be setting dancefloors alight for years.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stands the test of time - Superb album, 24 Dec 2009

This album is quite simply one of my favourites of the decade. Even for someone like my dad who hates dance music, appreciated some of the tracks on here. The production is spot on, and the tracks themselves are deep, vibrant and dark in some cases, but always with amazing rhythym. Enjoy!
