Do you like the soul side of The JB's? O.V.Wright?
Slow, grinding stuff that's mellow and tight?
If you are looking for a southern soul compilation
that goes beyond the most obvious songs, then this
is an excellent choice.
Some truly amazing stuff on this one. Eugene Evans,
never even heard of the man, sings his heart out on
three tracks, and "Too much pain" is a stone cold
In addition to Evans, a James Brown influenced soul
shouter, you get great songs from Robert Moore, Billy
Soul, Lord Thunder, Cody Black, Sam Baker and Gloria
Walker. Walker's "When my baby cries", is a supersweet
lovesong and a maybe the shiniest thing on here,
togheter with "Too Much Pain" and "One Hurt".
There are a few tracks tracks on it that are too
sentimental, but all in all it's a imposingly even
compilation with a lot of lesser known, but formidable
