4.0 out of 5 stars Miles Better Than Shining Light, 8 April 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Burn Baby Burn [CD 1] (Audio CD)
Ash follow up 'Shining Light' with their next single from their new album with 'Burn Baby Burn'. It's completely different from Shining Light, which I found quite dreary and repative. But 'Burn Baby Burn' is much more energetic, and the guitar riff, followed by the bass, then drums, then finally vocals means its a proper rock single. The guitar riff could pass for Blink 182, but the vocals confirm that it's Ash. If you like Feeder, you'll like this. Definately one of Ash's best singles, up there with 'A Life Less Ordinary'.

I thought Shining Light was a great song and the best ash had ever released.......How wrong i was Burn Baby Burn is one of the most brilliant pieces of work to ever come out of a recording studio. This is far better than Girl from Mars, A life less Ordinary etc. This is the best rock song i have ever heard and if this is what ash have on their upcoming abum free all angels i would definietly advise you to buy that too. This song is FAB no other words can describe it utterly brilliant

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Ash single, 19 Mar 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Burn Baby Burn [CD 1] (Audio CD)
Burn Baby Burn is a classic Ash single. Its kind of in the vein of Oh Yeah and Wild surf in that it makes you think of summer, and also makes you want to lay back and relax and jump up and down at the same time. With this and Shining Light, Free All Angels is shaping up to be another great Ash album. Buy this now and watch it burn into the charts!!! (Sorry to be so corny)

5.0 out of 5 stars Burn Baby Burn is a pretty average single from Ash, 17 April 2001

With their third album, Free All Angels, just around the corner, Irish four-piece Ash release their latest single Burn Baby Burn. After success with their last few singles, Shining Light and A Life Less Ordinary, they look likely to keep up the pace with this single. Burn Baby Burn is yet more punk-pop noise with sugar sweet pop melodies and teenage lyricism. It harks back more towards Ash's older punkier style, similar in style to their first album 1977 than to the heavier more mature sound of second album Nu-Clear Sounds. Kicking off with a quietly catchy guitar riff, before the distorted power chords and vocals jump in, Burn Baby Burn is typical Ash and nothing that they haven't done better before. It recalls material like Gold finger, but isn't as good or as exciting. Thinking About You is a slow acoustic number, full of sensitive singer/songwriter mannerisms, with a subtle cello in the background for added poignancy. The Arthur Baker remix of Submission is the best thing on the single, with guitar riffs battling against dance beats and orchestral stabs, and Tim Wheelers repeated "you turn me on" vocal refrain, it sounds fresh and energised. Burn Baby Burn is a pretty average single from Ash, after a long run of quality singles it sounds like a bit of a step backwards. It's still a good song though, as Ash do this type of stuff really well, it's just not their best work, and hopefully the album will find them looking forwards again.
