4.0 out of 5 stars Quirky, infectious jazzy, countryish pop, 7 Dec 2001
This review is from: The Swimming Hour (Audio CD)
Bought this after enjoying them play a support slot for the Handsome family a few weeks ago.
Andrew sings rather like a 30's matinee idol, plays fiddle like Stephane Grappelli working on some country tunes, backed by a 60's sounding backing band. Rather more than the sum of the parts, a real grower playing it on a daily basis this week

These days, one might not easily find the likes of the talent that Andrew Bird possesses, and this record is as i recall his finest work yet. Retro-swing influenced rock runs in the veins of his music and it tends to be very obvious on a couple of tracks, and the violin mixes just perfectly with the music along with Andrew Birds beautiful voice. The Swimming Hour is a must have album for all people that enjoy music!
