By far the better of the two singles, "Why so sad" is a good song and will probably shine in the context of the album, but as a single it does not have the same punch as the Manics key singles from previous albums have (design for life, faster, from despair... or even Tolerate). "Found that soul" is the more important singles of the two for long term Manics fans at least ( i loved most of truth, but I did miss the raw power of the bible and energy of EMG). Finally it seems as if the band have managed to merge the two and create this powerful tune. Turn up full volume and rock to the Manics as we used to remember them.
My main reason for getting the single however was not the main song but rather the b-side "Ballad Of The Bangkok Novotel" I read the lyrics on a manics web site and knew I had to hear this song, and what a strange track it is too. Nicky is let loose on vocals set against crashing guitars that sound like Of walking abortion speeded up by 1000.
" I think that I have seen the Devil Satan smiles at me in the mirror Revolution in the Golden Palace Four sickly boys are losing resistance So much porn and alcohol."
Locust valley begins with unsettling background noises before becoming a blend of EMG and bible style guitars with spacey bits, it is a pretty good song but overall the weakest of the three tracks. If this is a taster for the album content then it looks like the Manics have indeed re-found their souls.

I beleive this is a great comeback single from the manics,It's more like the older stuff ,but i don't think its as good as why so sad.It takes a couple of listens to really like it.

I was very impressed with this record, I was yet further impressed when seeing the live performances, which were exceptional, it proved thet they, (unlike other bands) can perform live, and they always put on a performance. The record itself is v.good in my opinion for it's guitars, and loudness, gets you in a good mood.
A MUST BUY, and I don't say that often, with the amount of phoney bands around.

Found That Soul, is that Guitar thrashing, Drum bashing, Song we all want and need.
FTS is truly a great song, shame about so why so sad (it's grown on me though, A LOT), but at least they're releasing them simukltaneously so fingers crossed for 1 and 2!!!!
Looking Forward to the Album, almost Guarenteed to be the Best Album of the Year?!?!?!?!
