Kapsberger wrote beautiful music for the lute, and was a leader viewed in awe in his day. If you are new to the lute, or baroque music, this is a wonderful introduction. If you are familiar with either, this is a wonderful addition to your collection.
Paul O'Dette is also a stunning player, and really brings the music to life.
The production on the album is also excellent - not too many echoes from playing in a huge cathedral, yet not too filtered to remove the tiny clicks and scrapes of the player's fingers...which never intrude, but show the very sympathetic balance between a "live" feel, and a clean recording.
The recording is very well executed and well worth the very small price. This is apparently volume 1, I await volume 2 eagerly

I absolutely love this album. I'm always giving it away so others can share the joy and happiness it brings. So I have to keep on buying it!
Paul O'Dette is a genius performer - intellectual, energetic and full of life. I'd love to see him play live.
And Kapsberger was plainly also a major genius, though sadly under-represented.
Buy this album, or you'll only experience half of life. Buy anything by Paul O'Dette if you ever touched, or were touched, by a guitar or lute. He's clever.
