As iconic as the Simpsons and the Simpsons franchise is you have to admit that even the very popular yellow-skinned family have had moments that they're not proud of. Crumby animation in their beginnings; the episode "The Principal And The Pauper" being hated due to way Principal Skinner's character was treated; and the simple fact that the episodes from the 2000's are not as good as the ones from the 90's. Another blotch on their record is 2001's The Simpsons Wrestling, the video game for the PSone.

Several Springfield citizens look the lay Smack D'oh-n on each other's hairy yellow butts as they fight in wrestling rings setup in numerous popular Springfield locations. These include the Nuclear Power Plant, outside the Kwik-E-Mart, and the Simpsons home street of Evergreen Terrace. There are eight different characters to choose from, including Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, with others to unlock as you play through the game.

The wrestling PPV card consists of one-off practice matches, or you can challenge friends to 2-Player bouts. The main event of the evening is the three different circuits which need to be completed before you can shout "I'm king of the world!" hopefully without falling down Springfield Gorge afterwards.

The aim of the game is so simple to explain even Homer has no excuses for not understanding it. You beat your opponent senseless and then get the 3-count to win the match. Moves are assigned to the square, triangle and circle buttons, and these are controlled by a power meter. When it fills up a certain amount then you can use a certain move. This combined with the numerous arcade styled pick-ups is supposed to encourage some form of strategy, although most times you'll just be bashing the square button repeatedly. It's OK for those who just want mindless button-bashing fun, but it's a very big letdown for those who like to layout detailed plans like Professor Frink in a chess match or something.

Another issue regards the feel of the moves. Some moves do more damage than others, but no matter which ones you actually use you can never feel the difference between a strong move and a weak move. Damage collision is unconvincing, and you never feel like you're really hurting anybody.

The biggest problem with the Simpsons Wrestling is that the strengths and weaknesses of the characters are badly unbalanced. Apu has his very quick hands and feet while Bart can skate around on his skateboard. But they're simply no match for Barney and Krusty the Clown who are the two strongest characters available from the start (Krusty's big mallet can do a lot of damage). It's hard to recommend you experimenting with all the available fighters. In fact once you've unlocked bible-loving, howdely-doodely speaking Ned Flanders there's no reason for you to play as anybody else. If you do play this game you'll see what I mean.

The fault with the unbalanced characters is especially noticeable in the handicap matches against Mr.Burns and Smithers. They're insanely difficult with Smithers' three-eyed fishes flooring you instantly and Burns constantly trying to throw nuclear bombs at your head. Your only hope of beating them is to play as either Krusty, or Flanders once you've unlocked him.

The Simpsons Wrestling? Classic PSone title? Hardly. A few diehard Simpsons fans who still have access to a PSone console may get some enjoyment out of this game. As for everybody else I advise you to take your shorts off, make this game eat them, and then take a look at Tekken 3 or Dead or Alive instead.

The first day i had this game i played it all day on new challenger and could not get past burns, but i managed to in the end,so be warned. The game itself is brill i could not think of a better way to spend...There are lots of different charecters, most of them out of the show are in the game, including my favorite itchy and scratchy. Now i have all the characters i usally just play against my friends as it is a two player game. This game is not at all like wwf as each character has its own different move. You also get a lot of laughs out of the game as it is so funny.I would reccomend this game to any one

Punch, kick. Punnch puuunch kiccck. Atomic bomb.
Death. restart.
So begins another wonderful bout of 'Simpson's Wrestling'. Its bad. you hold down either punch or kick and run wildly at you opponent in the hope to deafeat it. Then you go on to the next stage. Reapeat ad naseum. Suddenly, out of he blue, you come across Mr Burns and Smithers.
And you get nuked, again and again.
and you get bored.
and you hurl your Playstation against the wall.
It is at about this point that you realise that the only real reson that you have been playing the game is its simpsons licence. You see through the wonders of the name and realise that the graphics could have been drawn by your two year old sister, and that the collision detection could have programed by a simian. The final nail in the coffin come when the voice samples begin to grate.
On the plus side, you will get about 3 miniutes of fun from it, and it is OK in multiplayer. Sadly though, the game cannot be made even reasonably aceeptable due its HUGE flaws. Not worth the effort.

True, this game is not as good as some of the new consoles games, e.g. PS2, Gamecube or the Xbox. This game was an early release on the playstation one. At the time it was a pretty good game, and offered a story mode and multiplayer options. It is a challenging game and allows you to choose from a wide range of characters, which all have their own special moves and attacks. Overall this game is worth buying if you want a cheap new challenge.

If you love the Simpsons or Wrestling or even both then you will love this game. Heck this game is for everyone and is so much fun to beat up the residents of Springfield! A variety of Simpson characters, catchphrases, modes and items to get the best amount of fun possible from this game.

If like millions of people around the world and myself, you love the Simpsons, then you will be utterly dismayed by this shoddy effort. You're expected to swallow a premise that Lisa would 'fight' Marge, or Homer would 'fight' Bart etc. - how does this make a credible Simpsons game?
'Fight' is used advisedly - if you buy a wrestling game like Smackdown 2, you expect a few more moves than wearily bashing the square button as quickly as you can - which is the entirety of the gameplay in this. The 'special moves' are non-existent, the difficulty level simply consists of making a later opponent unbeatable, the graphics are shoddy- it looks like a Mega Drive game, and the sound is very poor.
An insult to the intelligence and buying power of Simpsons fans. You'll have the game finished in three hours, and sold within a day. I bought it for my five year old daughter, and even she thinks it's rubbish.
What's the final insult? That the loading screen consists of an Itchy and Scratchy animation that was available on the PC about ten years ago. That's how much the programmers of this game thought of their target audience.

It's dated horribly, it was obviously just made to make money and was clearly rushed. They don't wrestle in it at all, there's just nothing to this game at all. It's not entertaining in anyway whatsoever.

Being a big fan of the simpsons, I bought this game expecting a fun and funny game like the Tv series. But when I played it I was very dissipointed. Aswell as ropey graphics, the game fails to work very well. Most wins come by hitting the buttens repeatvly untill th opponent is down. The sound is realistic but thats about it. Fans or wrestling should steer clear while Simpson fans should take a closer look before buying.

When I got this game I assumed it was going to be fairly decent, I was wrong!. This game is completely unrealistic for a start, even for a simpsons game!, the moves are way too limited, and random, and u'll find that you can easily kill an enemy just by repeatedly jumping on their head about 40 times!!, the voices are quite well done and funny at times, but still this game is a complete failure, I dont think there has ever been a decent simpsons game at all. This game is fairly good though if your bored with a friend and you play versus mode, only for the 1st time though because the game just gets tedious!

After finishing Smackdown 2, I wanted a wrestling game that could make me and my friends laugh. And with this game we LAUGHED and LAUGHED and LAUGHED!! It was so funny...all our favourite characters were included in this game with all the usual game modes (One on one, tag matches etc). The only problem is that everyone wanted to play as Barney...though we did take it in turns in the end.
Overall excellant fun, not as serious as Smackdown 2, but top multi-player fun.
