5.0 out of 5 stars Thought Provoking
I studied this movie as part of my American Studies degree and found it very interesting as a film even though the content is very disturbing. For anyone looking at race relations or the media's representation of race, this is a must-see although be warned its not the kind of thing you would want to see on a Friday night in. Well worth a look and another very well made...

2.0 out of 5 stars Entertainment?
The central premise of "Bamboozled" directed by Spike Lee is a good one. The final result is not. Having watched most of Spike Lee's recent work I am struck by his obvious lack of faith in the intelligence of American viewing public. He has become so literal a director that nothing is allowed to be ambiguous for fear that the audience will misconstrue the specific agenda...

This is Spike Lee's Finest movie to date.
He takes a subject that is painful and makes it easy to watch and understand. Damon Wayans gives a first rate performance. Jada Pinkett-Smith is as you have never seen her before. The DVD is pack with great features Commentary by Spike Lee where he speaks straight from the Heart. I really enjoyed the Music Video's(Mau Mau's Blak iz Blak) This is one Spike Lee Joint that deliver's the goods

Spike Lee on the tin so it`s not going to be crap. Certainly gets tongues wagging as they are many layers to the story.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Spike Lee Masterpiece, 20 Nov 2005
I have watched Spike Lee movies before and I have not always understood his style. However I intend to urge as many people as I can to watch this movie. Is by no means a perfect film I would take issue with the ending. However it is a thought provoking movies and one of the best bt Mr Lee that I have watched. I have watched it several times and I intend to watch it again. Jada Pinkettt Smith was superb in the movie I have never seen her perform so well and she handled a difficult script superbly. It does make uncomfortable viewing but it is well worth seeing. Mos Def also put in an outstanding performance as Big Black Africa!! An unmissable movie...

5.0 out of 5 stars A Movie with style and difference, 4 Jan 2002

This review is from: Bamboozled [DVD] [2000] [2001] (DVD)
After a boring evening, a couple of friends and I picked up the movie in a shop and took it back to watch. My first impressions were that it was dull. But then I really got into the plot. Like The Shawshank Redemption, what makes this film great is not the money it could have made at the box office, NO! It's that other people have said it's good aswell. A very sad ending.

The central premise of "Bamboozled" directed by Spike Lee is a good one. The final result is not. Having watched most of Spike Lee's recent work I am struck by his obvious lack of faith in the intelligence of American viewing public. He has become so literal a director that nothing is allowed to be ambiguous for fear that the audience will misconstrue the specific agenda. This Spike Lee admits in the commentary of his film by having the Webster's definition of Satire recited by the lead actor.

The simplistic, amateurish and self-conscious direction was evident from the opening scenes especially the ones involving the two young protagonists in their tenement squat.

One of the most important parts of making a Motion Picture is the casting. If that is miss-judged, then the whole film is in jeopardy, as you cannot cut around a poor leading performance as you might a poor piece of art direction. Damon Wayans is simply not a good enough actor to convincingly pull off this complicated roll. An actor with a wealth of subtlety, diction and technique was needed. Damon Wayans has none of these. At points during his stumbling performance, I was sure he was simply trying to remember his lines!

Spike Lee had the chance to make a classic comedy with some serious messages thrown in but shot himself in the foot, again!! I hope this important and talented film director will somehow escape the cage that "America" has put him in and start making Motion Pictures of relevance again. How about making a film in Europe?
