This review is from: Pet Shop Boys It's A Sin 1987 UK CD single CDR6158 (Audio CD)
"It's a sin" was the first single extracted from "Actually" and was one of the two songs (with "What have I done to deserve this") to be published ahead of the album's release.
The CD was also the first "CD single" released by the Pet Shop Boys.
What can be said about this song that hasn't been written? It's a fantastic tune with a great bass track, amazing production values, and an OTT quality that, in mindset, is not dissimilar to what Queen did with Bohemian Rhapsody. Operatic and grand, "It's a sin" ticks all the right boxes and remains popular to this day - and rightly so.
The single includes the excellent "You know where you went wrong" - also an amazing production with Shep Pettibone, with fantastic backing vocals and great brass line.
After all these marvels, the Boys will be forgiven for a Disco mix of "It's a sin" which I personally found a bit ordinary, with a rather long intro and a boring middle section. By changing the instrumentation of the track too much, Stephen Hague took a lot of its juice out...but it's a great single nonetheless...
